The top team in the Pacific Division, San Jose, heads to Chicago to take on the top team in the Central Division.
Both on solid winning streaks, these two teams will meet Sunday evening in what should be a very entertaining matchup.
San Jose Sharks
Despite an underwhelming goal-scoring ability, the Sharks are playing good hockey. San Jose has won its last four games, including a great 4-2 win over Montreal.
Brent Burns has been playing wonderful hockey for the Sharks. He has two goals and four assists in his last five games, and leads the team in points (29) and goals (13). Burns is clearly one of the top offensive defensemen in the NHL.
The top line of Joe Pavelski, Joe Thornton, and Patrick Marleau has combined for 59 points on the year, including 20 goals, and is showing that the old guys can still get the job done. All three are in their 30s and contributing some of the best play on the team.
The Sharks are a wonderful defensive team. They rank 4th in the league in goals against and, despite the sometimes lack of offense, the defense has been able to win them games. They’ll look to do that against a great offensive team in Chicago.
Chicago is 5-2-1 so far in December. It’s been a great run despite the injuries to key players.
Marian Hossa has been the pleasant surprise of this Blackhawks offense this season. He currently ranks fourth in goals in the league with 16 and has already surpassed 2015-16’s goal total (13).
The team is looking good and is finally healthy after getting Jonathan Toews back. With Corey Crawford back skating during practice, it’s only a matter of time until this Blackhawks team has all of its stars back.
However, the Hawks haven’t faltered with Crawford not in net. Scott Darling has been wonderful for this team during Crawford’s absence, posting an 8-2-2 record with a 2.18 goals against average. He has been a key contributor to the team’s wins during what has been a tough, injury-filled last month.
To beat the Sharks, Chicago will need to find a way to score against the 4th ranked defense in the NHL. Hopefully for Hawks fans, Patrick Kane can break his streak of not scoring goals and help Chicago win at home.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The Total has gone UNDER six of Chicago’s last seven games
- San Jose is 4-1-0 in its last five games on the road
Free San Jose Sharks vs. Chicago Blackhawks NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Blackhawks are finally healthy and looking to continue their winning streak. Since San Jose can struggle scoring, I think Chicago will capitalize on this and shut the Sharks down.
