This should be a very interesting match up to watch, we have one team who are looking to gear up for the playoffs and the Coyotes are just wanting this season to be over.
Arizona will travel to Colorado for the second time this year and actually grabbed a 6-3 win in the first match up of the year, which was a big upset.
Arizona Coyotes
Arizona comes into this game playing some pretty good hockey, they have won their last two games. Most recent win came agaisnt the Nashville Predators 4-1 at home. Arizona also had a pretty good performance against the Blues winning 6-2 last Tuesday, also forcing the very good Devils team to overtime before losing in overtime.
Offense
All you have to do is look at the Coyotes record and you can make assumptions on how good this team is offence, they struggle in all the main categories including goal scoring as they only score 2.74 goals per game which ranks them 27th. Arizona averages the least amount of shots per game at 25.9, they also rank 23rd and 30th in power play percentage and face off percentage. Bottom line they struggle.
Defense
Defensively not much better, giving up 3.49 goals per game which ranks them 24th in the NHL, a big part of why they give up so many goals is the amount of shots they give up. Arizona gives up 36 shots per game which is dead last in the NHL. Their power play doesn’t do much to help that only killing off 75.1% of penalties which is really bad since they take 10.8 penalties minutes per game which is also last in the NHL
Goaltending
Karel Vejmelka should get the nod in the net for this one, he has a decent season 17-19-5 record but plays on an awful team so numbers might not be the best way to see how good he is. He has kept his team in many games this year and will need to be sharp if they want to keep his team in this one.
Colorado Avalanche
Colorado will be coming into Saturday looking for a bounce back effort after they lost Thursday night at home to the LA Kings. It was a close game in terms of shots but LA got better goaltending and won the game fairly comfortably. Colorado has been played good hockey of late though, going 6-3-1 over their last 10 and are fighting for every point to maintain their playoff spot.
Offense
Offensively the Avalanche are mid pack when it comes to scoring only averaging 3.16 goals per game, but they are in the top half of the league in shots on goal sitting at 33.2 per game which is 8th best, but as mentioned they struggle to score so it’s no surprise there 22nd in shooting percentage. The power play is very good though ranking 9th in the NHL, which shouldn’t be a surprise as they have to so many elite goal scorers and playmakers.
Defense
Defensively Colorado is very good in the goals conceded statistic, giving up only 2.8 goals per game which is 9th best in the NHL, which has a lot to do with the goalies playing well because this Avalanche team gives up a ton of shots, almost 32 per game which ranks them 23rd. The penalty kill has also struggled this season only killing 79 percent of penalties but has looked much better of late.
Goaltending
Alexandar Gorgiev is the listed expected starter for Saturday night, he has a very good 27-14-5 record this season with 4 shutouts. Georgiev did play against LA and didn’t look too good giving up 4 goals on 30 shots, he will look to bounce back on Saturday

Free Arizona Coyotes vs. Colorado Avalanche NHL Prediction
Colorado is clearly the much better team but I’m not taking any team -500, even the puck line is all that intriguing for me, I think the over is the play on Saturday evening.
