The Denver Broncos will travel across the country to take on the New England Patriots in Foxborough this Sunday for America’s game of the week. The Patriots are coming off a Monday night loss to the Chiefs 26-10, while the Broncos got the victory on Thursday Night Football against the Jets 37-28.
Denver Broncos
2020 seems like it’s going to be a lost year for the Broncos as the injuries continue to pile up for the club. Last year’s first-round pick Noah Fant is the latest to hit the list. Fant will be out for a couple of weeks due to an ankle injury suffered last Thursday. Denver now has up to 15 players on the injured list / IR just four games into the season.
Third-string QB Brett Rypien made his NFL debut against the Jets and showed he was able to move the ball quite a bit, but turnovers are an issue for the rookie. Rypien completed 19 of 31 passes for 242 yards to go with two touchdowns and three interceptions. It’s hard to win games when you throw for more picks than touchdowns, yet the Broncos still managed to get the win.

As of right now, Rypien is slated to make the start against the Patriots, but don’t be shocked if you see recently signed QB Blake Bortles make an appearance in this game. Bortles now has been on the squad for the last two weeks and he has had some time to learn the playbook. He has had success against the Patriots in the past keeping three of four games he played against them to a one-score game.
New England Patriots
The Patriot’s will hopefully get starting QB Cam Newton back prior to their game on Sunday. Newton was ruled out of Monday’s game after testing positive for COVID-19 early last week.
New England rode with back up Brian Hoyer in the loss against the Chiefs on Monday. Hoyer only managed to get the Pats in scoring range twice and simply got three points on the board out of it. He suffered a sack as time expired with no timeouts in the first half preventing New England from clocking the ball and setting up a FG.
We did see Jarrett Stidham’s first real NFL action in the game against the Chiefs as well. Stidham came in the game in the fourth quarter after a Hoyer fumble and almost led the Pats to a come from behind win. If Cam isn’t good to go in the game on Sunday don’t be shocked if Stidham is the starting quarterback.
Defensively, I think Bellicheck proved to the world on Monday it doesn’t matter who he has on the field as long as they execute the plays called. The Pats are missing several starters on the defense and made the Chiefs look like the Jets for the first three-quarters of the game. Stephen Gilmore had himself a nice game forcing a fumble and was second on the team in tackles in the loss.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Patriots -11
I think the Patriots are going to cover the -11 simply because the Broncos have way too many injuries right now. You have to play at the top of your game for four quarters if you are going to beat Bill Belicheck and he proved it on Monday with the Chiefs. If Cam Newton is the starter in this game for New England they are going to roll over Denver by 30. Even if Jarrett Stidham has to start I’m sure they can cover a -11 spread, but it will surely be lower if he is named the starter. Give me the Pats to beat the Broncos by at least two touchdowns on Sunday regardless of who is starting for New England.
