Big 10 play continues with the 17th ranked Purdue Boilermakers heading to Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes, in what should be a good matchup.
Purdue has played some great basketball this season, getting quality wins over Notre Dame and Wisconsin.
Iowa hasn’t had any signature wins this season and will look to change that in its second matchup against the Boilermakers.
Purdue is looking like great this season, and kudos to coach Matt Painter for getting quality play out of his young guys.
Freshman guard Carsen Edwards is giving Purdue quality minutes, averaging 10.4 points per game.
Sophomore Caleb Swanigan has emerged as the leader of this team, averaging a double-double with 18.3 points and 12.9 rebounds per contest. He has been fantastic all year.
Not to mention, he’s shooting over 55% from the field.
The offense is firing on all cylinder for the Boilermakers. The team averages about 83 points per game, which puts it 29th in the country in this category. The offense has been key in the big wins over ranked teams like Notre Dame and Wisconsin.
The defense has done a solid job as well, giving up just about 65 points per game. The Boilermakers rank in the top 50 in this category as well.
Big 10 games are always tough because it’s such a tough conference but Purdue shouldn’t have a difficult time getting a win in Iowa.
Lest we forget, Iowa is playing Purdue for the second time this season. In the first matchup, the Hawkeyes were soundly defeated by 17 in Mackey Arena.
Iowa will hope to flip the outcome on its home court Thursday.
Iowa can play some offense. The Hawkeyes actually rank just above Purdue in points scored per game, at 28th.
The team gets a lot of its offense from senior guard Peter Jok. Jok is averaging an impressive 22.6 points per game, to go along with six rebounds.
He’ll get help from freshman Tyler Cook, who averages about 12 points per game, and Cordell Pemsl, who averages 10 per game.
The offense will work through these three players and Iowa will need to find some unlikely heroes to help them out.
Beating Purdue will be a tough task, but it’s possible if the offense works in tandem and shoots the ball extremely well.
CBB Betting Trends:
- The OVER is 3-1-1 in Purdue’s last five games
- Iowa is 9-2 at home this season
