This matchup is a tale of two teams. The Golden State Warriors, coming off the best regular season in NBA’s history, adds a five time 1st team All NBA player in Kevin Durant. They begin their march towards the playoffs by leading the league once again in offensive and total net rating.
The Sacramento Kings are coming off of their 10th straight season of missing the playoffs and in midseason, trade their three time All Star and two time 2nd team All NBA member. They begin their march towards an 11th straight season of entering the lottery, never earning a pick higher than four.

As the season draws to a close, these teams couldn’t be further apart, the Warriors have already clinched a playoff berth but are fighting to retain their one seed. The Kings are tanking, hoping for a better draft pick.
Sacramento Kings
The Kings are in full on tank mode, having lost 11 of their last 13 games and putting a lot of effort into playing their young guys. They received Buddy Hield as part of the Cousins trade and have begin to feature him more as a ball handler rather than simply a spot shooter to spread the floor.
They are beginning to unlock facets of Hield’s game that some didn’t know existed, and the early results have been promising. Yet in attempting to encourage parts of his game not thought to be strong, there are also growing pains as well.
[dfads params=’groups=226&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
Included in those growing pains extend beyond Hield however. If you remember to the 2016 NBA Draft, the Kings drafted a bunch of big men, a decision at the time that didn’t make much sense considering that they were currently employing Cousins.
It’s beginning to make more sense now, as the team has began extending some playing time to those players.
Skal Labissiere, Georgios Papagiannis and Willie Cauley-Stein have all been receiving far more playing time since the trade and it’s certainly worth it to give them all an extended look. Labissiere was considered to be a high end prospect prior to his freshman year at Kentucky, but fell to the back of the draft.
But it has been worth it for the Kings to see what they have in him, he’s played in more games since Cousins has been gone than he did prior to his departure. And during that time, Labissiere has average around 12 points and 6 rebounds per game to include a hyper efficient field goal percentage of over 60%.
Golden State Warriors
The Warriors are finally starting to rebound after having lost Kevin Durant almost a month ago. Immediately after the injury, the Warriors lost five of seven games, an unprecedented total considering their record setting run last year.
Golden State has won their last five games, but more importantly they have begun to blow teams out again. Over their past four games the Warriors have won by an average of 24 points, and superstar Stephen Curry and company has gotten their groove back.
As impressive as this run has been, it’s mostly business as usual for the Warriors and as they begin to put some distance between themselves and the San Antonio Spurs they will also begin resting players. That is always a concern when betting on the Warriors, just how much (if at all) we’ll see their stars.

Considering the opponent, this game may also be well in hand early in the game, a situation ripe for resting their stars.
