Thursday, June 17th the Brooklyn Nets look to finish off the Milwaukee Bucks in their Eastern Conference semi-finals. The Nets took a 3-2 lead in the series behind the herculean efforts of Kevin Durant in Game 5.
While James Harden returned he only served to offer an emotional lift as Durant played all 48 minutes and teammate Jeff Green rose up to produce his best game of the playoffs.
The Bucks will be at home looking to find an answer for Durant and level the series once more to force a Game 7.
Brooklyn Nets
Two consecutive lower-scoring efforts by Kevin Durant are long forgotten after his performance on Tuesday night. The Nets needed every one of his points as six players combined to score 21 points.
All the damage was done by Durant, Green, and Blake Griffin. Durant was unstoppable delivering a masterful triple-double of 49 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 assists along with three steals, and two blocks.
Green returned in the game prior but raised his effort in Game 5 and his best performance of this season with 27 points including hitting seven of his eight 3-pointers.
Griffin played much closer to the instigator role he did in the early part of the series adding 17 points including three 3-pointers and three rebounds.
The only other Nets player who scored more than five points was Landry Shamet. In fact, Harden scored a mere five points with three coming at the free throw line as he shot 1 of 10.
Although he played 46 minutes the hamstring that kept him sidelined was still an issue as he wasn’t able (or didn’t want to risk) driving the paint to further aggravate it.
Kyrie Irving was out due to the sprained ankle he sustained in Game 4 and is listed as out Thursday.
Milwaukee Bucks
For a player who has won Defensive Player of the Year and been on four All-Defensive teams it’s odd Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t the primary defender on Kevin Durant.
I get that Mike Budenholzer perhaps wants to save his energy for the offensive end of the court but if we’re honest, at this point without Irving and a hobbled Harden stopping KD should be the Bucks one and only priority.
The Bucks got out to a solid start taking a 59-43 lead into halftime but then dropped the third frame by 10 points and lost the final quarter 33 to 21. It was a tale of two halves as Milwaukee pushed paced and moved the ball to start the game and then fell into iso-heavy schemes in the second half.
Even the choices at game end were head-scratching as Giannis elected to shoot a fall-away jumper over Harden. Knowing Harden can’t move laterally with ease he should of just powered by him and dunked the ball.
Antetokounmpo delivered a double-double of 34 points and 12 rebounds. Kris Middleton struggled to score 25 points shooting 8 of 22.
Jrue Holiday offered 19 points and eight assists while Brook Lopez chipped in 15 points and Pat Connaughton added 10 points.

The big question is how much Durant will have left in reserve after playing the entire game and whether Harden will be able to provide more than five points.
Most of us thought this series would go the distance and while it’s taken a much different path to get there I still think this is going 7.
