The Washington State Cougars come roaring into Boulder, Colorado, to take on the Buffaloes who are mired in a four-game losing skid.
The Cougars have won five straight games to advance to 8 – 1 in 2018, and have the nation’s #1 passing attack to thank for it. Well, actually, we might even be able to start mentioning the words defense and Cougars in the same sentence now too. I’ll Bet ya didn’t see that one coming!

The Colorado Buffaloes thought they would be playing for something bigger in week 11 of the 2018 season. After getting off to a 5 – 0 start to the year, the Buffaloes have lost their last four games, and are now left hoping to even become eligible for a bowl game all together.
Washington State Cougars
Most people who follow college football, know that Cougar Head Coach Mike Leach is going to have a spread out offense that likes to sling the ball around. The Cougar offense leads the country putting up 397.4 passing yards per game, but the lack of a run game could still prove to be an issue up the road.
With all the success throwing the ball around the field, the Cougs rank 129th in rushing yards per game. In case you missed it, there are 130 FBS Division teams in college football, so that tells you there is nothing good to say about it.

Senior QB Gardner Minshew has already smashed the numbers he put up in two seasons at East Carolina before transferring over to the Cougars. Of course, Washington State had to endure the leaving of Luke Falk, and the death of Tyler Hilinski in the off-season. Despite the hardships, Minshew has relished the opportunity, and has certainly made the most of it this season.
Gardner Minshew has throw 27 TD passes this season, and combined for 24 TD passes in two season’s at ECU. He was not the full-time starter for ECU, which led to his decision to make his last year in school where he could get on the field. Minshew is completing over 70% of his passes, and already has 3,517 yards with three games to play. That doesn’t even include a possible appearance in the Pac12 Conference title game, and whatever bowl they will playing in this season.
Colorado Buffaloes
Let’s go back to a moment in time.. The Buffaloes start the year with wins over Colorado State and hand Scott Frost his second of six-straight losses in his return to Nebraska. Colorado beats UCLA and a Herm Edwards’ led Arizona State squad to reach 5 – 0, and the future looks so bright.
Ahem, so a month later the Buffaloes are reeling, and in search of what the hell happened in such a short time. Junior QB Steven Montez was basically ineffective for 3 games until last weekend’s loss to Arizona last Friday night. Montez threw 3 TDs last weekend in their 42 – 34 loss to the Wildcats, but he only combined to throw 3 TD passes in the previous three games overall.
[dfads params=’groups=219&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
One major concern for Montez will be the availability of his leading WR Laviska Shenault Jr. Shenault has a nagging toe injury that could keep him out of this game, and that could be vital for this offense. Montez really only utilizes 5 receivers, and taking out Shenault’s 780 yards and 11 scores will hurt.
Jay MacIntyre is also likely going to be sitting out from concussion issues, and he is one of those 5 guys that Montez relies on as well.

Two teams are moving in different directions, and the Cougars have everything rolling their way right now. Montez could be without two of his top 5 pass catchers, and that could lead to a long day for the Buffalo offense.
