Here’s why I’m backing a Florida State ATS bet below in my Cavaliers Seminoles free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Cavaliers vs. Seminoles Gameday
Virginia heads to Tallahassee for a Week 5 ACC matchup with Florida State at Doak Campbell Stadium. Tony Elliott’s Cavaliers enter at 3-1 and 1-0 in conference play, while Mike Norvell’s Seminoles are 2-2 and 0-1.
Kickoff is set for 3:30 PM ET on ESPN2.
Saturday represents Virginia’s first true road game of the season. The Cavaliers haven’t visited Tallahassee since 2014 and haven’t won at Doak since 2011.
Virginia won the thriller last year, so Florida State shouldn’t need anyone to explain why this one matters.
The Seminoles are 9-1 against Virginia in Tallahassee. That history won’t score any points Saturday, but Doak isn’t exactly where I’d volunteer to break in a first road trip.

Virginia Cavaliers vs. Florida State Seminoles Odds & Last 5
The opening odds make Virginia a small road favorite. The Cavaliers are -142 on the moneyline, Florida State is +118, and Virginia is laying 2.5 points.
The current total sits at 51.5.
Virginia beat Delaware 42-3 last week after putting the game away early. The Cavaliers’ only loss came 38-27 against West Virginia in a neutral-site game in Charlotte.
Florida State responded to consecutive losses by beating Central Arkansas 34-7.
The Seminoles opened with a win over New Mexico State before dropping games to SMU and Alabama.
Virginia has enjoyed the recent series.
The Cavaliers won 46-38 in double overtime last season and have taken three of the last four meetings. Florida State still owns a 15-5 advantage in the all-time series.

Seminoles Stats
Florida State got exactly what it needed against Central Arkansas.
The Seminoles produced 417 total yards while holding the Bears to 248. They scored on their second offensive snap and built a 24-0 advantage before halftime.
Ashton Daniels spread the damage around.
Jayvan Boggs caught six passes for a career-high 122 yards and a TD. Duce Robinson added another score, while Ousmane Kromah rushed for 86 yards and reached the end zone twice.
Kromah has been a steady piece of the offense.
The sophomore has rushed for 397 yards and 5 TD’s through four games. He’s scored on the ground in every game, giving Florida State a dependable complement to a passing attack that likes to push the football downfield.
The Seminoles have topped 400 total yards in three of four games.
They also committed 10 penalties for 115 yards against Central Arkansas, which is a fairly efficient way to make 417 yards feel like more work than necessary.
Cavaliers Stats
Virginia wasted very little time putting Delaware away.
Beau Pribula accounted for five TD’s before leaving midway through the third quarter. He threw for 279 yards and four scores while completing 24 of 28 passes, then added another TD on the ground.
The Cavaliers also got career afternoons from two receivers.
Rico Flores Jr. caught nine passes for 113 yards and a TD. Kameron Courtney caught two TD’s as Virginia consistently created space downfield.
Virginia’s defense controlled the other side.
The Cavaliers held Delaware to three points and 71 passing yards. Keke Adams intercepted two passes, while the defense consistently prevented Delaware from sustaining anything through the air.
Virginia made Delaware’s passing game disappear; Florida State is bringing considerably more people worth covering.
That’s where this matchup gets more interesting.
Robinson, Boggs and Micahi Danzy present different problems on the perimeter, while Kromah prevents Virginia from loading everything into coverage and treating Saturday like a seven-on-seven tournament.
Cavaliers vs. Seminoles QB Matchup
Ashton Daniels gives Florida State plenty of big-play ability.
Daniels has thrown for 928 yards with 6 TD’s and 5 interceptions through four games. He’s also dangerous outside the pocket, giving FSU another way to create when the initial play breaks down.
Beau Pribula has been considerably cleaner with the football.
The Virginia QB has thrown for 793 yards with 11 TD’s and one interception. His mobility adds another layer to an offense that can stress defenses without requiring him to force the ball downfield.

“ Anybody can post a prediction. CappersPicks backs up its sports picks with opinionated matchup analysis, experienced handicappers & documented betting performance. Pad that bankroll one day at a time! ”
Turnovers are the obvious separator between these QB’s.
Pribula has consistently protected possessions, while Daniels has given opponents too many opportunities. Against a Virginia secondary with playmakers waiting for mistakes, Florida State can’t afford another afternoon of adventurous decision-making.
Pribula gets a different challenge.
Florida State’s offense has enough explosiveness to create scoreboard pressure, which could eventually force Virginia away from a comfortable script. Pribula has handled almost everything thrown at him so far, but matching FSU chunk plays without becoming overly aggressive will be part of the assignment.
Virginia Cavaliers vs. Florida State Seminoles bottom line: Virginia brings the cleaner QB play, but Florida State has enough explosive talent to make control of this game difficult to maintain.
Virginia Cavaliers vs. Florida State Seminoles Football Betting Trends
- Virginia is 12-3 straight up in their last 15 games.
- Also, the Cavaliers are 4-1 straight up in their last 5 away games.
- Virginia is 10-6 against the spread as favorites in their last 16 games.
- Florida State is 22-8 straight up after a win in their last 30 games.
- Additionally, the Seminoles are 20-8 straight up in their last 28 home games.
- Florida State is 16-14 against the spread after a win in their last 30 games.
Cavaliers Seminoles Free Pick: FSU +2.5
Here is my Cavaliers Seminoles free pick: I’m taking Florida State +2.5. Virginia has earned respect through four games, but now the Cavaliers are laying points at Doak against an FSU offense with enough weapons to make that assignment uncomfortable.
Daniels is the obvious risk because the interceptions have been expensive. If he protects the football, though, Florida State can attack Virginia with Kromah on the ground and multiple legitimate threats outside. That’s considerably different from what the Cavaliers dealt with last Saturday.
Virginia has looked good, but I’m not suddenly charging admission for the Cavaliers bandwagon while they’re laying points at Doak.
I also like the game-state possibilities with FSU catching 2.5. The Seminoles don’t need Daniels to outplay Pribula for four quarters. They need to avoid the giveaway that creates a short field and let their explosive pieces produce two or three drives that change the game.
That’s enough for me with points attached to the home side. Virginia can be the cleaner team on paper and still spend the fourth quarter trying to escape Tallahassee. Give me Florida State +2.5.
