The Vanderbilt Commodores will make the trip south this weekend to take the field against the Ole Miss Rebels. The Commodores are in desperate need to get something positive going after a 1-3 start this season.
It will be an uphill battle against a tough Ole Miss defense this weekend.
The Ole Miss Rebels will be looking to reach .500 on the season after a 59-31 loss to Alabama last week. Don’t look at that score and get too excited. The Rebels scored 21 of those points in the third and fourth quarters after Alabama had already built a 38-10 lead in the first half.

Let’s just say the Tide’s starters weren’t exactly focused on the game. The Ole Miss defense has a great opportunity this weekend against an SEC opponent.
Vanderbilt Commodores
The Vanderbilt Commodores were finally able to find the win column last week with a 24-18 victory at home against NIU. Quarterback Riley Neal completed 21 of 28 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown.
Running back Ke’ Shawn Vaughn galloped for 138 rushing yards and a score of his own. When Neal was tossing the ball down the field, Kalija Lipscomb was the go-to man, averaging 13.4 yards per reception.
Vandy has been able to score an average of 23 points per game while giving up 39. They’re moving the ball for an average of 365.8 total yards, 236.8 passing and 129 on the ground.
Defensively, the Commodores have struggled against the pass and defending the run. They are giving opponents 340.8 yards through the air and 160.8 on the ground.

Riley Neal has completed 74 of 119 passes this season for 858 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions. Running back Ke’ Shawn Vaughn has run the ball 69 times for an average of 5.8 yards per carry and four scores.
Lipscomb has hauled in 23 receptions for 268 yards and two scores of his own.
Ole Miss Rebels
The Ole Miss Rebels will be looking for a win to improve to .500 on the season after falling 59-31 against Alabama last week. For the record, the game wasn’t near as close as you might think by looking at the score.
Quarterback John Rhys Plumlee completed 10 of 28 passes for 141 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. He was also the teams leading rusher in the game with 109 yards and a score on the ground.
Jonathan Mingo was his top receiver, scoring a touchdown and averaging 24.7 yards per reception. It needs to be noted that starting quarterback Matt Corral is probable for the game this week against Vanderbilt.
The Rebels have put up solid numbers for the season. They simply haven’t been able to turn the production into points. They’ve been able to score an average of 26.4 per game while giving up 29.6.
They’ve moved the ball for 423.2 yards per game, 224.6 through the air and 198.6 on the ground. Defensively, they are giving their opponents 314.4 passing yards and 106.6 on the ground.
I’m sure those numbers are higher right now than they were this time last week before the Alabama game.

Free Week 6 NCAA Football Pick
I’m really liking this total going over 60. Both of these defenses have struggled at times and I think we’ll see more of that on Saturday. Vandy is giving up 39 points per game and Ole Miss is right under 30.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Total over 60
I do think the Rebels step things up in this game at home, but I don’t have enough confidence in them yet to say they will be able to cover the seven points. Nonetheless, I like the game going over 60.
