We got Pac-12 action on Friday night as the Utah Utes will travel to Boulder to take on the Buffaloes of Colorado. The Buffs are hot right now as they have won four in a row, while the Utes finally grabbed their first win over Oregon State after dealing with COVID issues for the first month of the season.
Utah Utes
The Utes were ravaged by COVID to start their 2020 schedule and it definitely has had an effect on Utah’s preparation. They looked pretty good against Oregon State and looks like they might have a chance to turn their season around. Through their first three games, the team has scored an average of 22.7 points per game while allowing 27 points this season.
Senior quarterback Jake Bentley is the leader of the Utah offense. He threw for 174 yards and a touchdown against Oregon State and has thrown for 489 yards with three touchdowns alongside four interceptions this season. His main targets are tight end Brant Kuithe and wide receiver Bryan Thompson who have combined for 235 yards and a touchdown. They face a Colorado defense allowing 215 passing yards per contest in 2020.

Utah has struggled to put out good defensive performances week in and week out due to COVID. They rank 53rd in the country in points allowed but with only three games it’s such a small sample size. As a team, they have six sacks and five interceptions this season but they are going to be facing the best offense statistically in the Pac-12 this weekend.
Colorado Buffaloes
Colorado is off to a 4-0 start and currently sits second in the Pac-12 Conference standings with a 3-0 record and just a half-game behind USC for the top spot in the Pac-12 West. The Buffaloes keep winning despite being projected to finish at the bottom of the Pac-12. The team lost their head coach, starting quarterback, and lead receiver from a season ago and still are finding ways to come out on top.
Senior QB Sam Noyer is finally getting his chance to start after sitting behind Steven Montez for the last four years. Noyer hasn’t been putting up eye-popping stats, but he is doing a very good job at managing the games. He has completed 64 of 103 passes for 749 yards with a 4:4 TD to INT ratio in four starts this season. He also has 38 rush attempts for 179 yards on the ground to go along with five scores.
Offensively, the Buffaloes have concentrated on the run game. Colorado averages 245.5 yards on the ground per game which is ranked 8th in the country. Running back Jarek Broussard leads the team in rushing with 733 rushing yards and is gaining 6.4 yards on the ground per attempt.
The Buffalos defense has performed well thus far, allowing 363 yards per game and they will likely have some difficulties stopping the run in this one. Colorado has 11 sacks and the Utes have allowed six sacks through their first three-games. They are surrendering 24.2 points per game in 2020 which is ranked 37th in the FBS.

I like the Utes to get the win in Boulder on Friday night. Colorado is not as good as that record shows and the Utes record doesn’t reflect the potential the team has. Utah was ravaged by COVID for the first month and are finally getting their feet back underneath them. The Buffaloes have not played a quality opponent yet this season and Utah will be their first real test. I think the Utes have the run game to be able to outlast the Colorado defense as they lost both their starting linebackers from last season. Utah’s defense has gotten better and Colorado has only scored 44 points in their past two victories and the Utes defense is definitely better than Arizona and San Diego State. Give me the Utes to get the upset on the road.
