Aggies vs. Utes Gameday
Utah State heads to Salt Lake City on Saturday for another difficult road assignment, this time against No. 17 Utah at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM ET, 1:30 PM local time, with FOX carrying the Battle of the Brothers.
The Aggies are 0-2, but last week’s result deserves considerably more respect than the record suggests. Utah State went to ranked Washington and pushed the Huskies to the final play before falling 16-14.
Utah State is winless, but somebody forgot to tell the Aggies they were supposed to roll over at Washington.
Utah has encountered no such early-season drama. The Utes crushed Idaho 66-14 in Morgan Scalley’s regular-season head coaching debut, then dismantled Arkansas 43-10 to improve to 2-0.
Utah is ranked No. 17 in the AP poll and has outscored its first two opponents 109-24.
Subtle, this start has not been.
The Utes won the most recent meeting 38-21 at Utah State in 2024. Now the rivalry returns to Rice-Eccles Stadium, where Utah finishes a season-opening three-game homestand.

It’s Week 3, Utah State Aggies vs. Utah Utes, and the Aggies get another ranked road opponent immediately after nearly stealing one in Seattle.
Utah State Aggies vs. Utah Utes Odds & Last 5
Utah is a 27.5-point home favorite, leaving Utah State with nearly four touchdowns in the rivalry matchup. The total is sitting at 56.5.
The Utes have made numbers like that look fairly reasonable through two games. They buried Idaho by 52 points and Arkansas by 33, scoring at least 43 in both while covering comfortably.
Utah State’s results have been considerably stranger.
The Aggies lost 29-17 at home to Idaho State despite outgaining the Bengals 407-241. Four turnovers and three additional possessions stopped on downs turned that statistical advantage into a 12-point loss, which is one way to make 407 yards feel completely useless.
Then Utah State went to Washington and nearly pulled the upset.
The Aggies were sizable underdogs but allowed only 16 points, keeping the Huskies out of the end zone throughout the second half. Utah State had the ball at Washington’s 39-yard line for one final Hail Mary before an interception ended it.
Utah won the 2024 meeting 38-21, but rivalry history isn’t doing the handicapping for us Saturday. Twenty-seven and a half points is doing plenty of that work by itself.
Utes Stats
Utah has scored 109 points and generated 1,128 total yards through two games. The Utes produced 633 yards against Idaho before putting up 495 against Arkansas, showing plenty of offensive balance along the way.
Devon Dampier has completed 31 of 42 passes for 437 yards and five touchdowns with one interception. He was especially sharp against Arkansas, throwing for 261 yards and two scores while adding 49 rushing yards and two more touchdowns.
Dampier has accounted for nine touchdowns in two games, so Utah isn’t exactly easing into the Scalley era.
Wayshawn Parker has been even busier around the goal line. He has six total touchdowns through two games, tying for the national lead, with three rushing scores and three receiving touchdowns.
Parker scored three times against Arkansas while producing 118 all-purpose yards. Noah Bennee added 113 receiving yards, including a 57-yard reception that helped Utah break the game open.
The defense has been equally rude.
Utah has surrendered only 24 points through two games and held Arkansas to 305 total yards, including just 61 on the ground. The Utes also broke up 13 passes against the Razorbacks, their highest single-game total since 1998.
That’s a fairly complete two-game résumé.
Aggies Stats
Utah State has scored 31 points and allowed 45, but those totals don’t explain how differently the first two games unfolded. The Aggies gained 407 yards against Idaho State and still lost 29-17 because four turnovers and failed fourth downs repeatedly killed them.
The Washington game looked nothing like it.
Utah State’s defense held the Huskies to 16 points and 356 total yards, including 107 on the ground. Washington failed to score a touchdown in the second half and needed three field goals to build enough separation to survive.
Grady Brosterhous made his first career start and completed 17 of 28 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns. The downside was three interceptions, although he also ran 21 times for 81 yards and kept extending possessions with his legs.
Javon Robinson supplied the biggest offensive play with a 78-yard touchdown reception. Eli Wood caught six passes for 53 yards and scored the touchdown that pulled Utah State within 16-14 with 1:50 remaining.
The Aggies are still searching for their first win.
They’re also coming off a performance that looked considerably more competent than the 0-2 beside their name. Betting markets tend to charge for ugly records, and Utah State’s job Saturday is simply to make that price matter.

Aggies vs. Utes QB Matchup
Devon Dampier is firmly established as Utah’s starter and has picked up where he left off in last season’s Las Vegas Bowl. Through two games, he has thrown for 437 yards and five touchdowns while operating one of the highest-scoring offenses in the country.
He has been dangerous with his legs as well.
Dampier gets another favorable matchup, while Brosterhous gets his second straight afternoon trying to ruin a ranked team’s plans.
Dampier ran for two touchdowns against Arkansas and has helped Utah stay efficient without forcing the passing game. With Parker producing touchdowns as a runner and receiver, the Utes haven’t needed their quarterback to play superhero.
Utah State’s quarterback situation changed after the opener. McCae Hillstead started against Idaho State but threw three interceptions before Grady Brosterhous took over the following week at Washington.
Brosterhous responded with 196 passing yards, two touchdowns and 81 rushing yards in his first career start. He also threw three interceptions, including Utah State’s final Hail Mary, so we’re not hanging the efficiency banner quite yet.
Still, he gave the Aggies a different dimension.
Brosterhous’ size and running ability helped Utah State stay on the field against Washington, and he’ll need both against a Utah defense that just made Arkansas miserable for four quarters. Dampier clearly owns the statistical advantage, but the number asks Brosterhous to compete, not match him touchdown for touchdown.
Utah State Aggies vs. Utah Utes bottom line: Utah has spent two weeks flattening opponents, but after Utah State nearly wrecked Washington’s afternoon, asking the Utes to win this rivalry by four touchdowns gives us something worth arguing with the sportsbooks about.

Utah State is 0-2, but last week’s 16-14 loss at ranked Washington matters more than an old ATS trend. The Aggies stayed alive until a final Hail Mary fell incomplete.
Utah State doesn’t need to match Utah’s fireworks; it needs to make 27.5 feel obnoxiously large.
Grady Brosterhous wasn’t spectacular in his first career start, but he gave Utah State a chance despite three interceptions. He also ran for 81 yards as the Aggies hung around all afternoon.
Utah is dangerous enough to wreck this quickly. Devon Dampier has been efficient, Wayshawn Parker keeps finding the end zone, and Rice-Eccles punishes visitors.
Still, rivalry games carrying nearly four touchdowns deserve skepticism. Utah State’s defense just handled a difficult road assignment better than expected, and my CFB betting approach says make Utah prove it can create separation rather than simply win comfortably.
The Utes can control this game without covering 27.5. I’ll take the oversized rivalry number and hope the Aggies keep being annoying.
