The 2025 UCLA Bruins football team has had a tough season, but the team’s first win did come against No. 7 Penn State, where they secured a 42-37 victory.

On the other side of the ball, the defense has struggled, allowing an average of 32.4 points and 392.8 total yards per game.
A major storyline for the season has been the performance of quarterback Nico Iamaleava. Through five games, he has completed 98 of 148 passes for 954 yards, with six touchdowns and three interceptions.
Iamaleava has also been a key contributor on the ground, leading the team in rushing with 60 attempts for 332 yards and four touchdowns.
Other top offensive players include wide receiver Kwazi Gilmer, who leads the team with 24 receptions for 304 yards and two touchdowns, and running backs Anthony Woods (39 rushes for 190 yards) and Jaivian Thomas (38 rushes for 165 yards).
Michigan State Spartans
The Spartans ony have wins over Youngstown State and Boston College this season. Recent covers are not showing us Jonathan Smith has turned the program around.
Quarterback Aidan Chiles came with Smith from Oregon State. He has been alright, but the expectations were higher.
Odds are it is as much a generally low level of talent over Chiles’ flaws. At the same time, he is not putting the team on his back.
The defense has been nowhere near enought to support an offense that is probably just better than average.

Helping the Spartans is the time and location, UCLA will have to travel across the country and play at noon Eastern. That usually has an impact.
That and this being a major letdown spot will help the Spartans. Perhaps they are now convinced they have to put in real effort this week to beat UCLA.
