The ROOFCLAIM.com Boca Raton Bowl is going down on the Tuesday before Christmas when the UCF Knights take on the BYU Cougars in a star-studded matchup between two future NFL QB’s. The Knights ended their regular season schedule with a win over USF 58-46 back at the end of November, while the Cougars took down San Diego State in their last matchup 28-14 on December 12th.
These teams have met twice before with the Knights grabbing a 31-24 home victory in the most recent affair on October 9, 2014.
UCF Knights
UCF will look to close out their season on a high note and grab their seventh win this year over a very good opponent. This will be UCF’s fifth consecutive bowl game and the Knights are 2-2 in their last four.
Dillon Gabriel’s sophomore season probably didn’t go the way he wanted sitting at 6-3, but he continues to put up numbers for the Knights. He has completed 227 of 368 passes for 3,353 yards to go with 30 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also had 138 yards on the ground plus two scores.
The Knights are second in the FBS in passing offense as they average 373 yards per game through the air. UCF is a solid 24th in the nation in rushing offense with 212.6 yards per contest. Josh Heupel’s squad ranks 6th of the 127 teams in the FBS to take the field this season in scoring offense as they put up 44.3 points per game.
Jaylon Robinson and Marlon Williams are two NFL ready receivers that are men playing against boys out there on the field. Both of them have over 1000 yards from scrimmage this season rank in the top 30 in yards per reception this season among qualified wide receivers.
UCF is 80th in scoring defense as they give up 31.4 points a contest.
BYU Cougars
The Cougars looked like they were cruising to a New Year’s Six bowl until being upset by #19 Coastal Carolina 22-17. However, they did bounce back last week against San Diego State to move to 10-1 on the season before being named to the Boca Raton bowl. This will most likely be Zach Wilson’s final game in college as he slotted to be a first-round pick. Look for Wilson to put on a show with his arm that all the scouts rave about.
Zach Wilson has completed 221 of 302 passes for 3,267 yards with 30 touchdowns and three interceptions this season. He is third on the team with 242 rushing yards and eight scores on the year. He is 11th in the FBS in yards per attempt with 17.78 this season.
Running back Tyler Allgeier leads the team on the ground with 131 carries for 957 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. Wideout Dax Milne has been Zach Wilson’s favorite target this season as he leads the team in yards with 1,118 and 63 receptions.
The Cougars enter this week’s game 12th in the nation in passing offense with an average of 322.8 yards per game through the air. BYU is 45th in rushing offense as they put up 189.4 yards per contest. The Cougars are eighth in the FBS in scoring offense as they put up 43 points a night this season. BYU is third in the country scoring defense as they allow an average of 14.6 points per game.

My play here is going to be UCF and the points to cover in this game.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: UCF +6.5
I think that the UCF offense has enough firepower to be able to outgain this BYU offense. The Cougars gave up over 366 yards to Coastal Carolina who was the best offense they have faced this season. BYU is very vulnerable over the top and thankfully for Dillion Gabrial, he is very good at throwing the long ball. Gabrial has averaged 14.77 yards per attempt this season which is the 12th best mark for any QB in the FBS. The Knights average a staggering 585.6 yards per contest this season in total offense on the year. Five of their nine games have seen UCF rack up at least 632 yards in total offense. Statistically, BYU is the third-best defense in the country but their numbers are super inflated from the level of competition they have faced. Give me UCF and points as I expect the public to hammer BYU tomorrow evening.
