The UC Davis Aggies invade Memorial Stadium to face off against the Cal Golden Bears as the 2019 NCAA football season kicks off for both of these teams.
The Aggies are coming off of a 10 win season, while the Golden Bears are just hoping to stay relevant in a Pac-12 Conference that seems to be getting better and better each year.
This will be the 10th time these two schools face off on a football field, but I think the home team will be the victors here on Saturday, despite last season’s records.
UC Davis Aggies
The Aggies offense, led by QB Jake Maier, can and will, put up some points in this opening game against a Power 5 school.
If you remember last year, they only lost to a Stanford school, that is a whole lot better than this Cal squad, by a score of 30-10. I expect the same sort of game here on Saturday.
Though Maier lost his number one target, Keelan Doss, he does have a suitable replacement in Jared Harrell, and TE Wes Preece, who should be able to help him eclipse the 4,000 yard mark this year and build off of his 36 TD passes from a year ago.
This offense could have a problem moving the ball against this Golden Bears D that was 9th in the nation in interceptions last year, so a pass heavy offense will probably be the downfall for them on Saturday.
California Golden Bears
Cal probably won’t light up the scoreboard against anybody this year, and if they don’t figure out a way to win this early game, they will most likely begin their season 0-2, as they travel to Seattle to face #13 Washington in their second game of the year.
But history is on the side of the Golden Bears, as they have never lost to their in-state counterparts.
Just as it was last season, Cal is going to have to rely on their defense to win this game for them.
The offense will score some points, mainly because the Aggies don’t know how to control a clock, but, a win in this game is no feat compared to what the Golden Bears are about to face in their upcoming Pac-12 schedule.

Free Week 1 NCAA Football Pick
An upset is definitely not out of the question in this Week 1 game against a team that thrived in their 2018 schedule, against a team that really struggled in theirs.
I’m not saying it will happen, but if you’re really a betting person, then you know what I’m saying.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: UC Davis +13
After having to watch what this Cal team did last year, I don’t trust them to beat themselves. Couple that with the way this UC Davis team played against Stanford last year, and you know where I’m going with this.
Cal should win this game, so I’m not even going there with this, but take the Aggies to cover the spread in this one.
