On Saturday we got a Big 12 matchup on our hands when the Red Raiders travel to Manhatten to take on the Kansas State Wildcats on at home at 3:30 p.m.
Texas Tech Red Raiders
Texas Tech is coming off a brutal loss against the Longhorns after blowing a 15 point lead with two minutes to go. Texas Tech was up 56-41 with 2:52 left in the game and Sam Ehlinger threw two touchdowns to take the game into overtime after Texas recovered an onside kick. After such a massive breakdown Tech is going to need to bounce back here and get their first win in conference play.
Alan Bowman looked great against the Texas defense, but that isn’t saying much as they are terrible year after year. Bowman has 761 passing yards on the season to go with his seven touchdowns. The caveat with him is though he likes to take chances the downfield which has led to him turning the ball over four times in two games.

The Red Raiders don’t have one of the best defenses in the country as they allow an average of 48 points per game through two contests. Matt Wells needs his team to toughen up defensively because if they continue to allow this many points I’d be shocked if they win a game at all this season. Eli Howard is the best that Tech has to offer on the defensive side of the ball. Howard has a team-high 1.5 sacks to go with five solo tackles this season.
Kansas State Wildcats
Kansas State is flying high right now after their victory over the #5 ranked Oklahoma Sooners 38-35. The Wildcats defense was able to force redshirt freshman QB Spencer Rattler into a bunch of poor throws and make him turn the ball over.
Leading the Wildcats offensive charge is senior quarterback Skylar Thompson. Thompson pulled off an upset against the Sooners for the second consecutive season. He has looked great so far in his senior season completing 35 of 54 passes for 593 yards to go with three touchdowns and zero interceptions.
On defense, Kansas State seniors came up big in their last game against the Sooners. Senior defensive back AJ Parker has been very active for State on the field. Parker has four passes deflected so far in just two games and is third on the team with 10 tackles. Senior linebacker Justin Hughes is the team’s leading tackler with 16 so far this year. He is also tied for the team lead in interceptions with one on the season.

Free Week 5 NCAA Football Pick:
If Alan Bowman can sure up his ball security I think that the Red Raiders can win this game outright. Bowman showed a lot of promise against Texas with six TD passes. Even though the Wildcats just upset #5 Oklahoma I think they will still be riding high from that victory and play down to their opponent. Skylar Thompson has been dominant against Tech in the past, but this is the first time that he comes into the matchup as a favorite. Give me Tech to get their first conference win of the season and beat the Wildcats outright.
