In Week 4 of the 2026 regular season, the Texas Longhorns visit the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday, September 26, at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville. Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM ET on ABC. Texas enters ranked No. 1 and 3-0 after beating UTSA 30-6. The Longhorns also own a 24-23 comeback win over Ohio State, but Saturday will be their first road game of the season.
Texas finally leaves Austin, and Neyland is a rather unfriendly place for a first road trip.
Tennessee is also 3-0 after handling Kennesaw State 42-9. The Volunteers are ranked No. 14 in the AP Poll and No. 13 in the Coaches Poll, with home wins over Furman and Kennesaw State surrounding a 45-24 road victory at Georgia Tech.
Both teams open SEC play here. They have met only three times previously, all in Cotton Bowls, with Texas holding a 2-1 series advantage.

Tennessee has scored 143 points through three games, and the running game has done plenty of the heavy lifting. The Volunteers have piled up 896 rushing yards while averaging nearly 300 per game. Faizon Brandon has thrown for 552 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions.
He has also rushed for 137 yards and three scores, giving Tennessee another dimension when a play breaks down.
DeSean Bishop leads the Vols with 286 rushing yards and four touchdowns, although his availability bears watching after he surfaced on the injury report this week. Tennessee also has season-ending injuries to Ethan Davis, Edrees Farooq, Jadais Richard and Jaedon Harmon, while Javin Gordon and Justin Baker have uncertain statuses.
Longhorns Stats
Texas has opened 3-0 with 113 points, but the résumé has more substance than the scoring total alone suggests.
The Longhorns erased a 20-point fourth-quarter deficit against Ohio State before taking care of UTSA. Arch Manning has thrown for 664 yards and seven touchdowns against two interceptions. Hollywood Smothers leads the ground game with 198 rushing yards, while Cam Coleman has emerged as Texas’ leading receiver with 178 yards.
The defense has surrendered only 36 points in three games and held UTSA to 142 total yards last week.
Texas owns the prettier ranking, but this is its first chance to prove it travels.
There are still some health questions to monitor. Nick Townsend and Justus Terry missed the UTSA game, while Colin Simmons and Kobe Black were dealing with injuries coming out of that win, although Steve Sarkisian indicated both were expected back for Tennessee.

Longhorns vs. Volunteers QB Matchup
Faizon Brandon gets the biggest test of his young Tennessee career after a clean opening three games. The freshman has completed 41 of 64 attempts for 552 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions while adding three scores on the ground. George MacIntyre has worked behind Brandon and has completed five of seven passes for 56 yards and a touchdown in limited action.
Texas counters with Arch Manning, who has completed 60 of 97 passes for 664 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions.
His biggest moment came against Ohio State, when the Longhorns scored 21 unanswered fourth-quarter points to steal a 24-23 win.

Karle Lacey Jr. has seen limited duty behind Manning, completing seven of eight passes for 63 yards. The backup quarterbacks are worth knowing, but barring something unexpected, this matchup belongs to Brandon and Manning. Brandon has yet to throw an interception, but Texas represents a considerable jump in defensive resistance.
Manning, meanwhile, gets his first road start of the season in a sold-out Neyland Stadium against a Tennessee defense that has already produced 13 sacks.
Neither quarterback needs to win this game by himself, and whichever one avoids the costly mistake may have the easier Saturday afternoon.
Texas Longhorns vs. Tennessee Volunteers bottom line: Texas brings the No. 1 ranking and the stronger early résumé, but Tennessee’s running game, pass rush and Neyland Stadium give the Longhorns a much different test than anything they have seen through three weeks.

Tennessee has been especially dangerous on the ground, and that matters against a Texas team stepping into a sold-out Checker Neyland for its SEC opener.
Getting 5.5 points with an unbeaten Tennessee team at Neyland gives me enough room to work.
The Vols also have 13 sacks through three games, so Arch Manning should see considerably more heat than he did against UTSA. Tennessee doesn’t need to dominate this matchup. It needs to keep Manning uncomfortable and avoid giving Texas cheap possessions.
I expect the Longhorns to have their moments, but my college football betting approach says the home dog can stay inside this number.
Take Tennessee +5.5.
