The Texas Longhorns will travel up north to Fort Worth and take on the TCU Horned Frogs this weekend. Texas was able to get back in the win column with a win over Texas Tech, while TCU would take their loss of the season to arch rival SMU.
HISTORY: These two Texas schools met in every season from 1927-1995, and resumed their longtime series when TCU joined the Big 12. Texas leads the all-series 63-27-1, but the Horned Frogs have been thorns in the Longhorns side as of late, winning five of the last six meetings.
Texas Longhorns
Texas was able to pull off a needed and decisive victory over Texas Tech last week. The Longhorns took a 28-point lead into halftime, and outscored the Red Raiders in the second half, en route to a 70-35 victory.
Casey Thompson is coming off of the best game of his career. He had another accurate weekend against Texas Tech, going 18-23 for a career-high 303 passing yards for five touchdowns, and he added 29 yards and one score on the ground. This will be his biggest test yet, but he looks ready for it.
Bijan Robinson turned in another stellar performance last weekend. The sophomore back gained 137 rushing yards on 18 carries, and caught a 38-yard touchdown. Junior back Roschon Johnson rushed for 64 yards and two touchdowns in the big win over Texas Tech.
Wideouts Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittington had strong games against the Red Raiders as well. Whittington caught five passes for 93 yards and his second touchdown of the season. Worthy gained caught five passes for 100 yards, including three scores.
The Longhorn defense has responded to the Arkansas loss with a pair of solid performances. Despite giving up 35 points to TTU, they forced a pair of turnovers in the first half en route to a 35-point win.
TCU Horned Frogs
TCU suffered their first loss of the season last weekend to arch rival SMU. Both schools went into the locker room knotted up at 21, but it was the Mustangs who pulled away on the road and picked up the 42-34 victory.
Max Duggan had his best game of the season last weekend. The junior quarterback completed 16 of 28 passes for 276 yards and threw for three touchdowns for the second week in a row. He performed well against Texas in last season’s win, and he should do so again at home this time around.
Zach Evans led the backfield with another strong performance against SMU. The sophomore back ran for 113 yards on 15 carries, and he caught three passes for 70 yards, including a 46-yard touchdown.
Senior wideout Taye Barber leads the team in receiving after snagging five passes for 114 yards, including a 60-yard touchdown. Quentin Johnson missed last weeks after bringing in five catches for 95 yards and two scores against Cal.
TCU’s defense is much better than the 595-yard performance they gave up to SMU. They’ve forced three turnovers in each of their first three games.
