Mendoza completed 17 of 23 passes for 237 yards without a touchdown or interception. He connected with Jordan Allen eight times for 113 yards, while Dalen Penson added three catches for 73 yards.
Justice Haynes supplied nearly all of Tech’s rushing production.
Haynes carried 16 times for 64 yards, meaning the rest of the team finished with negative net rushing yardage. Georgia Tech’s only touchdown came from Rahkeem Smith on a 100-yard kickoff return rather than from the offense.
The Jackets’ defense kept them in the game, allowing 14 points and 315 total yards. Georgia Tech held Colorado scoreless during the second and third quarters before surrendering the decisive touchdown with 37 seconds remaining.

Tennessee overwhelmed Furman with 638 total yards, 29 first downs and eight touchdowns. The Vols threw for 309 yards and rushed for 329, showing plenty of explosiveness once the offense settled into the game.
Faizon Brandon made an immediate impression in his first college start.
Brandon completed 13 of 17 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. He added 68 rushing yards and two more scores, tying Tennessee’s freshman record with five total touchdowns.
DeSean Bishop led a deep Tennessee rushing attack.
Bishop finished with 97 yards and a touchdown, while Justin Baker added 89 yards on only three carries. Mike Matthews supplied the biggest plays through the air with four receptions for 132 yards and touchdowns covering 55 and 57 yards.
The Tennessee defense recorded six sacks and held Furman to 43 passing yards. Xavier Gilliam delivered three of those sacks and five tackles for loss, although the Paladins did find more success on the ground with 177 rushing yards.
