Well, if Nevada and Oregon playing each other was funny; Stanford and USC playing each other is right up there, as well. Both teams happened to lose their starting quarterbacks week one.
K.J. Costello got his head caved in and may or may not be ready to go against the Trojans. J.T. Daniels, meanwhile, looks like he might be done for the entire year.

Daniels was sacked awkwardly and grabbed his knee immediately in a tremendous amount of pain. He left and returned on the sidelines in crutches. We don’t know yet, but it didn’t look good and it’d be surprise if he played this week and for the for seeable future.
Stanford Cardinal
Stanford got back to playing Stanford ball. They ran the ball decently, not as well as they would have liked, but they played great defense and controlled the ball.
While they didn’t run the ball like they would want, they played a tough defense in Northwestern, but it was enough to control the ball for almost forty minutes.
Everything went perfectly for the Cardinal until they lost K.J. Costello to a head injury. Costello was clobbered as he slid and, surprisingly enough, there wasn’t a targeting call.
Costello left the game and didn’t return. Davis Mills came in and wasn’t all that effective completing only 50% of his passes.

The good news is that Stanford is probably, overall, the better team. Obviously, better coached; not as good of athletes, but they are probably the more physical and that might be enough in this one even with a backup quarterback, but we’ll see.
Mills will have to play better and complete some passes in order to take some heat off.
USC Trojans
USC beat Fresno State, but man, was it ugly. As a Trojan fan, I really tried to enjoy the win as much as possible, because there isn’t going to be many victories to celebrate, but they did everything possible to lose that game.
The only reason USC won is because they just had the better talent. Pound-for-pound, Fresno State is the better team, but USC has the talent and athletes on their side. Without that, they would have lost.
Overall, week one of 2019 looked a lot like 2018. The Trojans started off hot, but once adjustments had to be made the Trojans were barely able to hold on.
Trojan nation got real familiar with that script last year and if week one is any indication 2019 is going to be looking eerily similar.

Free Week 2 NCAA Football Pick
Quite frankly, if Costello was healthy and starting Stanford would win and they’d win rather easily. However, they may be handicapped and this game is a bit of a toss up.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Stanford by 3.5
However, I think Stanford should have enough to beat the Trojans. With a freshman quarterback in Kedon Slovis taking over, Stanford is going to make him beat them.
While the Trojans ran the ball well against the Bulldogs they didn’t nearly run enough and when the threat of the pass was basically gone, the Bulldogs were able to bow up a bit.
The Cardinal shouldn’t have any problems stopping the run, especially if there isn’t any threat in the passing game. The Trojans defense will have to step up and they’ll be up against it with Stanford’s physicality. We’ll see if that defensive line will be able to hold up for four quarters.
