This has been a disappointing start for the Stanford Cardinal. K.J. Costello suffered a concussion against Northwestern and last week he suffered a hand injury and his status is up in the air.

Oregon State is a team still trying to rebuild and beating a vulnerable Stanford team could be the sign of life this Beaver team needs moving forward.
Stanford Cardinal
Stanford hasn’t played good ball. They’ve struggled on the offensive end of the ball and on the defensive side of the ball.

Stanford is one of the worst offenses in college football. They rank 118th in total yards, 96th in passing, 109th in rushing, and 122nd in points scored.
Whether or not Costello plays is a big difference. Costello hasn’t been the same since coming back from his concussion, but he’s better than Davis Mills.
Defensively, Stanford has been better, but not much better. USC, UCF, and Oregon were able to expose the talent gap in skill positions. The good news is Oregon State doesn’t have nearly the same talent those three teams have.
Oregon State Beavers
Oregon State has been one of the worst power 5 programs in college football, but Beaver fans are hoping that things are going to change.
Jonathan Smith is in his second year and a win over Stanford could send the signal that things are changing in Corvallis.
Oregon State got a win last week against Cal Poly 45-7 and if they beat Stanford this week at home, there is the potential that the Beavers win three in a row for the first time since 2014.
A big blow to Beavers chances is whether or not Jermar Jefferson plays. He didn’t play last week, but he is an impact player. Last year, Jefferson ran for almost 1400 yards and against Hawaii two weeks ago he ran for 183 yards.
Jake Luton had a good week last week throwing for four touchdowns and completing 77% of his passes. He’ll need to perform at that level if the Beavers want to beat Stanford.
Also, keep an eye on the Beavers defense. Statistically, they aren’t good, but a lot of that was because of the Oklahoma State game. They only allowed 31 points to Hawaii and just seven last week against FCS opponent Cal Poly.

Free Week 5 NCAA Football Pick
This is a game between two struggling teams that haven’t had much success against the spread.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Under 57.5
For me, the best bet in this one is taking the under. I believe Stanford should keep Oregon State in check and I’m just not sure how effective Stanford’s offense is going to be. Especially, if Costello isn’t playing.
The safe bet in this one is taking the under.
