The Rice Owls have not gotten to play much this year, and now after their week 1 they have fallen to 0-1 and will be hungry as ever to get back to .500.
The Golden Eagles ran right into a bit of a buzz-saw in their last game, as they met-up with the now 6-0 Liberty Flames who put it on them a bit beating the Golden Eagles by a score of 56-35.
This Southern Mississippi has not been great this year, but they get some major class relief here and based on their current squad they are small, but deserved favorites here on Saturday.
Rice Owls
Only losing your first game of the season by 6 points doesn’t seem all that bad, but considering that was one of the few games it looks like the Owls can win all year it becomes a lot worse. We should look for some desperation out of this Owls team, as they are only 3 point dogs here and will be looking to build some kind of momentum here.
One of the bright spots for the Owls in their first game was the play of their senior QB Mike Collins who only through 1 pick and came back with 4 TD passes. He will need to be equally if not more efficient this Saturday if this Owls team is to get into the win column on Saturday.
Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles
On paper this Golden Eagles team does not seem all that great, but I have been able to watch a couple of their games now and have liked what I have seen at times. I think all-around they are a bigger and better team than the Owls and can honestly see the Golden Eagles blowing this Owls team out at home.
Look for Frank Gore Jr. to have a big game here, as I can see the Golden Eagles relying more and more on the run as they run up the score this Saturday afternoon.
