Two winless BIG-10 Teams will be squaring off when the Penn State Nittany Lions travel to Memorial Stadium to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers this weekend.
Things aren’t looking great for either team as they haven’t been able to win close games to start the season. Penn State’s 0-3 start is their worst start since 2001 and James Franklin may be on the hot seat if things don’t change soon.
Penn State Nittany Lions
It seems like 2020 is going to be a lost season for the Nittany Lions and if they want to swing things around it’s going to have to start with QB Sean Clifford. Clifford has already thrown five interceptions in the three games that Penn State has played this season and posted a despairing 28.9 QBR against Maryland last week.
James Franklin is confident that Clifford is the guy for the job, but don’t be shocked if his hand is forced to put in Will Levis if Clifford continues to struggle.
Running back Journey Brown announced this week that is going to have to retire from football after discovering a heart complication within his body.
Brown was slotted to be the next Penn State back to go to the league just like Miles Sanders and Saquan Barkley before him. Brown led the 2019 Lions in rushing with 850+ yards and rushing touchdowns so that going to be a big blow to the offense as well.

The Lions need to figure out some kind of running game offensively because defenses are selling out on the pass and stopping them from moving the ball. QB Sean Clifford is the teams leading rusher and he is not known for his mobility. Hopefully, they can get something going, going up against a Nebraska team that allows 181.5 rushing yards per game.
Nebraska Cornhuskers
Nebraska is coming off a brutal to Northwestern 21-13. After controlling the game for the entire first half 13-7, the Cornhuskers offense just couldn’t get anything going in the second half.
The Cornhuskers have been one of the worst teams in the country on offense through two games and are ranked 117th out of 123 schools that have played a snap this year in the FBS. They are averaging 15 points per game and just a little over 400 total yards of offense a game.
Scott Frost is going to have to figure out if he is going to ride with Adrian Martinez for the rest of the season or make the switch to the freshman in Luke McCaffery. Martinez has not shown any growth in the last three years so it may be time to move on from him and give the new guy a shot.
Martinez has started both games for the Huskers this season and has completed 21 of 42 passes for 230 yards to go along with an interception. Adrian has yet to find the endzone passing but does have a touchdown on the ground.
Defensively, Nebraska has had a really hard time stopping the run but that actually may work in their favor this week. Penn State is the worst rushing team in the BIG-10 so far this season, and they are usually known for their running game.
The Huskers are getting gashed for 181.5 rushing yards per game and giving up an average of 2.5 rushing TD’s to opposing offenses.

4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Penn State -3
I love Penn State in this spot as a get right back game to get their season back on track (sort of).
Even though the Lions have the worst rushing attack in the conference, Nebraska’s rushing defense being so bad should neutralize the playing field. Adrian Martinez has struggled over the past three seasons when you get pressure on him, and the Nittany Lions defense has the most sacks in the conference.
Give me Penn State to roll over the Cornhuskers and cover the -3.
