The Oregon Ducks will fly down south to Palo Alto and take on the Stanford Cardinal this weekend. Oregon was able to open up conference play with a win over Arizona, while Stanford would lose to UCLA at home.
HISTORY: These two PAC-12 schools have clashed in nearly every season since 1950. Stanford leads the all-time series 49-34-1.
Oregon Ducks
3)Oregon followed up a strong non-conference stretch of play by dispatching Arizona at home. The Ducks took a 14-point lead into halftime, but the Wildcats fought back and prevented the host from covering their massive spread for the third time this season.
Anthony Brown had another strong start in Eugene last weekend. The BC transfer went 10-21 for 206 passing yards and three touchdowns. With Brown managing games well and protecting the football, the Ducks look like real threat to crash the CFB Playoff for the second time.
CJ Verdell had a strong first month of the season. After rushing for over 2,000 yards in his first two seasons, the junior back has run for 343 yards on 61 carries with five touchdowns through the first four games. Travis Dye has complimented him well with 286 rushing yards and two scores.
The Ducks haven’t had to throw much through the first four weeks, and Johnny Johnson III leads the team with 10 catches for 148 receiving yards and a touchdown. Tight end Terrance Ferguson has scored in each of the past two games.
Oregon has been strong and physical on both sides of the ball, getting to the quarterback three or more times in each of the first four games.
Stanford Cardinal
Stanford suffered their second loss of the season last weekend when they welcomed UCLA to town. The Bruins took a two-score lead into halftime, and the Cardinal couldn’t recover, taking their second loss of the season, 35-24.
Tanner McKee had another solid start against the Bruins. The sophomore quarterback went 19-32 for 293 passing yards and three touchdowns. His play has been steady, but he hasn’t had much help from the run game.
Nathaniel Peat and Austin Jones have split the load through the first four weeks. Peat leads the team with 196 rushing yards on 27 carries, and two touchdowns. Jones missed last weekend’s contest, but he’s run for 118 yards on 26 touches, and caught seven passes for 93 yards.
Brycen Tremayne has given McKee a consistent threat on the outside early. The senior wideout leads the team with 17 catches for 197 receiving yards, and he’s scored in each of the first four games. Elijah Higgins had a strong showing against UCLA, catching five passes for 103 yards, including a 56-yard score.
Stanford’s defense has struggled to stop the run over the pass three weeks, giving up over 200 yards twice.
Free Week 5 NCAA Football Pick
Oregon looks like a contender this season, and although Stanford has a history of stalling PAC-12 powers seasons, we don’t feel like this is one of those spots. Mario Cristobal is brewing something special in Eugene, and it won’t be spoiled here.
4* Free Week 5 NCAA Betting Pick: Oregon -8.5
Stanford’s history of defending home turf has the margin at a manageable number. Oregon’s run game should overwhelm Stanford’s vulnerable defense, and they should earn their fifth win of the season. It won’t come easy, but the Ducks are trustworthy.
Take Oregon’s game spread this Saturday, and eye the over.
