Both of these teams won their opening games but Ohio State was definitely more impressive than Oregon.
The Ducks held off Fresno State while the Buckeyes went to Minnesota and won on the road.
The PAC 12 is always looking for respect and win in this spot would definitely bring the conference some of that.
Oregon Ducks
Oregon’s lone datapoint this season was their win last week against Fresno State. The Ducks didn’t cover so of course there is an overreaction that maybe they are not as good as advertised. That may be true but the Bulldogs are also pretty good.
Anthony Brown is an experience QB so he should be able to perform in what is going to be a hostile environment. He is also very mobile and that is going to be key. You have to be against OSU because they are so good up front.
The Oregon defense features DE Kayvon Thibodeaux. He might wind up being the top pick in the draft in the spring and he has said he want to win the Heisman. For him to have a chance he has to shine in this one.
This is a huge spot for Oregon. I think it was good that they have a game under their belt but at the same time the Buckeyes do too. They have to get off to a good start.
Ohio State Buckeyes
The Buckeyes took a little while to get going last week against the Gophers. Once they did, they did a pretty good job showing that they are still the class of the Big Ten.
QB CJ Stroud definitely passed his first real test. It helps when you have the best receiving group in the nation. On some of those long passes you were hoping to see that a Minnesota played had fallen down because they were so wide open.
The defense was just OK in the opener. The Buckeyes are so used to reloading on that side of the ball that we might be expecting too much. The odds are that by the end of the season they will be among the best defensive teams in the conference.
Stroud looks great but Ohio State definitely feels more gettable this season than they have in the last couple of years when they were only just not better than Alabama and Clemson.

Free Week 2 NCAA Football Pick
The one on this one was definitely influenced by the results of last week. Prior to the season starting, I was looking to back Oregon in this spot and the results might have just created a little extra value.
4* Free Week 2 NCAA Betting Pick: Oregon +14.5
The Buckeyes are more than capable of beating almost any team by a couple of TDs. They probably get the win but this one will be closer than they like.
