Ole Miss Rebels
Ole Miss jumped out to an ideal 4-0 start here in 2022. The Rebels came out of the gate slow against Troy, but they did lay the boom on Central Arkansas and cover the 36-point spread seven days later in Oxford. Lane Kiffin’s team then traveled to Atlanta, and put a whopping on Georgia Tech, and they managed to avoid disaster at home from Tulsa the following Saturday.
The Rebels ripped off three SEC wins to open up conference play, defeating Kentucky at home, then hammering Vanderbilt and Auburn. Last weekend, they found themselves in trouble in Death Valley.
In Week 8, Ole Miss lost to LSU, 45-20, dropping their first game of the 2022 season.
Ole Miss scores 38.3 points per game, while allowing 20.7 ppg.
Jaxson Dart had the tall task of replacing one of the school’s best signal callers ever in Matt Corral, and he’s played well thus far. The USC transfer tossed three touchdowns in both wins over Auburn and Vandy, and after a tough trip to Baton Rouge, he’ll have to shake that off here.
Dart has thrown for 1,772 passing yards with eleven touchdowns to seven interceptions, and 377 rushing yards through eight games.
Kiffin’s got a high-powered run game going here in Oxford. Quinshon Judkins and Zach Evans have split the work effectively early, with one of them gaining 110 yards of more in each game this season. Judkins, a redshirt freshman, has five multi-touchdown games over the last six games, with a season-high 140-yard performance versus Tulsa standing out.Evans, a TCU transfer, missed last weekend’s bout but rushed for a season-high 136 yards in his last appearance against Auburn.
Judkins is among SEC leaders with with 831 rushing yards and 12 scores, while Evans has rushed for 605 yards and seven touchdowns this season.
It wouldn’t be Ole Miss football without a couple of imposing wideouts. Jonathan Mingo and Malik Heath fit the build, and have given Dart a pair of big body receivers to rely on. Mingo leads the team in receiving yards (576) after exploding versus Vanderbilt, going for a career-high 247 yards and two scores. Heath came over from in-state foe Mississippi State, and he’s caught a team-lead 31 passes for 491 yards and three touchdowns.
Texas A&M Aggies
Texas A&M has underwhelmed on a lot of levels this season. The opened the season with a shutout victory over FCS-power Sam Houston State, but they inexplicably lost at home to Appalachian State the following weekend.
Jimbo Fisher’s team was able to rally and earn some of their stripes back with home wins over Miami and Arkansas, but they were rocked by a three-game road trip. A&M lost in Stark Vegas to Mississippi State by three scores in Week 5, and they played Alabama very well in Tuscaloosa, nearly capitalizing on the absence of Bryce Young. The Aggies found themselves victims to another hostile environment last weekend in Columbia.
In Week 8, Texas A&M lost to South Carolina, 30-24, dropping to 3-4 against the spread this season.
Texas A&M is scoring 21.9 points per game, while allowing 20.4 ppg.
A season-ending injury to Max Johnson has thrusted Haynes King back into the starting lineup. The sophomore quarterback performed admirably against Alabama, but he couldn’t do enough to get A&M back in the win column last weekend. Hopefully a return home will do him and the whole offense some justice.
King has thrown for 941 passing yards with six touchdowns to six interceptions.
Devon Achane has handled all of the backfield work for A&M. The junior back isn’t a bruiser, but he’s been the focal point of the offense this season, surpassing the 120-yard mark in four of the last six games. Achane had a pretty strong performance versus SC, and he’s totaled 627 rushing yards, caught 26 passes and scored five touchdowns (4 rush, 1 rec) on the season.
An injury to Ainias Smith was a bit hit to the wideout room, but true freshman Evan Stewart has stepped up to the plate. Stewart caught eight passes for 106 yards in the Bama game, and had a 6-catch, 87-yard performance last weekend. Stewart leads A&M in receptions (32) and receiving yards (390).

Annually two of the sneakiest programs in the SEC, things haven’t got very well for the host this season. You have to ask yourself, did Texas A&M ever recover from the embarrassing loss to Appalachian State?
The question is yes. Despite of the final results during the this road stretch, Texas A&M has come really close to crossing the finish line, and nearly spoiled Alabama’s season prematurely after minor confrontation over the summer. A return to Kyle Field should be just what Jimbo Fisher and company need to stop the bleeding.
Ole Miss is really good at what Texas A&M stops really well, and that bodes in favor of the host here. The Rebels like to play a physical, run-heavy game, and a motivated group of Aggies should come out prepared to stop that. All tough losing streaks come to an end, and with luck and the Kyle Field crowd on their side, A&M has a good chance to right the ship and jump back in the win column. Spot them the points here.
