We got a pair of winless teams from the SEC meeting up in Lexington for an afternoon showdown. The Kentucky Wildcats will host the Old Miss Rebels at Kroger field at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Ole Miss Rebels
The Rebels were smacked to open up the Lane Kiffen era in Ole Miss. The Rebels gave up 51 points in their loss to Florida and will need to fix some things defensively going against another good team.
Head coach Lane Kiffen used a two QB offense in the opener as we saw both Matt Coral and John Rhy Plumlee. Matt Coral completed 22 of 31 passes for 395 yards to go along with three touchdowns and an interception in the opener. Coral is going to be used more to throw the ball as he is the better passing QB and Plumlee was utilized in the running game with four rush attempts for four yards on the day.
Elijah Moore was Coral’s top target in game one with 10 receptions on the day for 227 yards. Dontario Drummond led the team in TD’s for the day with two to go with his 60 receiving yards.

On defense, the Rebels need to be better. I know they were facing a great Gators team, but 51 points is too much in any game. The passing defense is what really needs to be worked on as they surrendered over 400 yards through the air.
The Rebels are still reloading though slowly with it being Lane Kiffen’s first year at play caller.
Kentucky Wildcats
Kentucky played a great game in the opener on the defensive side of the ball but struggled offensively turning the ball over and giving Aubrun chances close to their endzone. This was Terry Wilson’s first game coming back since tearing his ACL in 2019 and he didn’t look comfortable.
Wilson completed 24 of 37 passes for 237 yards to go with a touchdown and an interception. Not too bad of numbers, but he fumbled the ball twice which really hurt them as it led to two Auburn touchdowns.
If Wilson can sure up his ball security he is poised to be one of the top QB’s in the SEC thanks his running ability. He led the team in rushing attempts in the opener and was second on the team in rushing with 42 yards on the ground.
The Kentucky defense was among the best in the SEC last season and should be tremendous again this year. They limited opponents to just 19.3 PPG last season which was good for 15th in all of the FBS. The defensive display in the season opener was very promising, judging they restricted Auburn to only 324 total yards. The Wildcats will try to crack the AP 25 again with a win here after dropping out from #23 with a loss against Auburn.

Free Week 5 NCAA Football Pick:
I think Kentucky has the better team on both sides of the ball and dominate this Ole Miss team. Kentucky is 7-0 ATS in their last seven games at home and I like them to add another to that total. Terry Wilson needs to get comfortable with his receivers and with another week of practice under his belt he should be prepped for this one. Wilson will have to take advantage of the weak Rebels secondary just like Florida did in their opener. That’s why I’m laying the points with Kentucky -7.
