The Alabama Crimson Tide will face one of their border rivals this weekend when they welcome Ole Miss to Tuscaloosa. Both teams enter undefeated and on the heels of blowout home wins.
HISTORY: These two SEC schools have met in every season since 1964. Alabama leads the all-time series 52-9-2, and they’ve won eleven of the last twelve games, nine of those have been by double figures.
Ole Miss Rebels
Ole Miss looked really good in September, and this will present their biggest test yet. The Rebels dominated Tulane last weekend, jumping out to a big halftime lead and silencing the Green Wave in the second half en route to a 61-21 victory.
Matt Corral looks like he could be the best quarterback in the SEC. After tossing five touchdowns against Austin Peay, the junior qb went 23-31 for 335 passing yards and three touchdowns against the Green Wave. He also added 68 yards and four scores on the ground, accounting for seven total touchdowns. He’s going to give the Crimson Tide a run for their money this weekend.
Jerrion Ealy and Henry Parrish Jr. have done a good job splitting the touches through the first month. Ealy led the Rebels in rushing last season, and he ran for 103 yards on 15 carries against the Green Wave. Parrish has run for 174 yards so far, including a 19-yard score in the win over Tulane.
Dontario Drummond has looked like a star through the first three games. After snagging nine balls for a career-high 177 yards against Louisville in the opener, he’s caught eleven passes for 162 yards and three scores in the past two games. Jonathan Mingo followed up a two-score performance with six catches for 136 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown against Tulane.
Ole Miss has forced a pair of turnovers in each of their first three games.
Alabama Crimson Tide
Alabama responded to a scare in the Swamp with by thumping Southern Miss at home last weekend. The Crimson Tide jumped out to a 35-point lead, and pushed ahead to cover the massive 46-point spread. ‘Bama has been battle tested early, but this will be the most potent offense they’ve faced yet.
Bryce Young’s historic start continued last weekend. He was incredibly precise, going 20-22 for 313 passing yards with five touchdowns to one interception. Young leads the nation with 15 passing touchdowns, and he’s throwed for 1,124 yards through the first four games.
Alabama will hope to get lead back Brian Robinson Jr. back this weekend after a rib injury sidelined him against USM. He leads the team with 208 rushing yards on 37 carries and two touchdowns. Sophomore back Roydell Williams stepped up with 110 yards and a score last weekend.
The Tide have another talented group of pass catchers this season. John Metchie III has caught five or more passes in each of the first four games, and he leads the team with 24 catches. Deep threat Jameson Williams leads the team with 299 yards and three touchdowns.
Nick Saban has another stingy defense on his hands, and they’ve dominated throughout the first month of the season. Junor lineback Henry To’o To’o leads the team with 25 tackles.
Free Week 5 NCAA Football Pick
If there’s anyone who knows Nick Saban, it’s Lane Kiffin. That along with the coach’s enigma makes the idea of an upset appealing. This will be the most talented team Alabama has faced yet this season, but their at Bryant-Denny, and Saban always defends home turf.
4* Free Week 5 NCAA Betting Pick: Alabama -14.5
Alabama at home with a manageable spread versus an opponent that may come in overwhelmed? It feels like the way to go. It’s hard to see Ole Miss containing Alabama at home. Kiffin is the model child for the underdog, but we won’t fall for it this weekend.
Take Alabama’s spread, as they could make Lane Kiffin regret leaving with a multi-score victory. Also eye the under, as the total is a bit juiced for an SEC battle.
