Old Dominion is on a 5 game losing streak with an offense that looks about as stagnant as it gets. They are trying to change things up, though, as Messiah deWeaver looked decent in that last loss to Marshall and there is no reason to believe we won’t see further improvement out of the junior.
The UAB Blazers are certainly in a different spot then the Monarachs as they have been perfect this season outside one tough fought loss to Western Kentucky. They now get the Monarchs at Legion Field and unless the Monarchs get unreal QB play it is hard to imagine this one going well for them.
Old Dominion Monarchs
Messiah deWeaver most likely starts this one as he showed some promised after replacing Stone Smartt at QB. The Monarchs proved to be unable to stop the run in that last game allowing over 5 yards per rush and that might be the case again today with the UAB Blazers on the other side of things.
The Monarchs can not be ruled out completely, though, as they have given some good teams some close games. In particular when they played Virginia they were a bit unlucky and ended up losing that contest by 11 points even though they out gained their opponents.

The biggest problem for the Monarchs come this Saturday is going to be running the ball. They really struggle to establish the run and the UAB Blazers present a tough matchup as they only allow 96.5 rushing yards per game.
Without an established run presence in this game it is going to be really hard for deWeaver to put up any kind of offense on a defense which only allows 168.5 yards per game through the air.
UAB Blazers
The UAB Blazers will be riding high in this game after coming off a convincing victory against UTSA. Everything went right for them in that game as they almost managed 500 yards total offense while holding the opposition passing attack to under 100 yards.
With the way this game sets up this Saturday it would not surprise me if we see a similar defensive performance from this UAB team. The game before that this team played against Rice and somehow managed to beat them by 15 points despite taking 174 total yards of penalties.
The defense was once again solid in that game only allowing about 300 total yards of offense.

The UAB offense loves to push the tempo and throw the ball downfield and they have the gunslinger to make it work with Tyler Johnston under center. He manages to hit a big play in nearly every game, but he also does not have a game without and interception so far this season.
He already has over 1500 yards through the air and can definitely see him having a solid game against the Monarchs secondary.

I usually don’t like taking the big favorite when the point total is this low, but I still don’t think the Monarchs will be able to keep up with the Blazers. I think we might see a slight improvement in the QB play for Old Dominion, but still don’t see it being enough as I cant see them establishing much of a running attack to compliment the passing game.
For me there are just too many mismatches on the field and UAB gets this one at home, so it is favorite or pass for me here.
