It’s Championship Week. The assumption is that the Buckeyes are going to dominate on their way to the playoffs. I do not see that as automatic though.
It is not that the Buckeyes are not good, they are. I am just not sure they can roll against a gritty Northwestern team.
I am not sure the Wildcats can do it, but their style of play could fit to making this game close. They are so well-coached too
Northwestern Wildcats
There are a couple of keys for Northwestern in this game. The first being that they are very good on defense, second in points allowed, just 14ppg.
Paddy Fisher might not be the best athlete at the position but he is one of the best linebackers in the nation. They need him to get that defense into good spots throughout the game.
Patrick Ramsey is solid at QB. They are not dynamic on offense but they are so much better than they were a year ago. I also like the way they just go with what’s working.
As the season has progressed the Wildcats have found a running game. They really spread the carried around too. Freshman Evan Hull looks like a find. He broke out against Illinois last week.
Winning the game would be a big surprise for the Wildcats. Keeping it kind of close would not surprise me.
Ohio State Buckeyes
It is probably right to assume the Buckeyes are among the four best teams in the country. At the same time I think the way this is coming together is pretty hilarious.
Justin Fields is one of the best QBs in the nation. He is a dual-threat and he is going to have to have a good game for them to roll. At times he has been a little careless.
The Buckeyes defense is not up to its normal standards. They are giving up 23ppg and their are 111th in passing defense. That is certainly influenced by the fact they are always in the lead but still.
This one feels like a little bit of a trap for the Buckeyes. The expectations are high but at the same time, I think there are lots who would love to see them fall flat.
