Furthermore, the Huskies relied heavily on their defense and run game as quarterback John Holst only threw for 101 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.

If they can’t keep QB Malik Washington at bay, they may have a really long night on their hands. Albeit the Huskies finished off last year strong with 6 out of their last 9 games ending in a win, and started off strong this year, meaning we may all be surprised of what they can muster up this season.

Northern Illinois Huskies Stats

In the first week, the Huskies heavily relied on running back Chavon Wright, as he put the only touchdown on the board. Splendidly, he managed to accumulate 77 yards on 11 carries, averaging an impressive 6.5 yards per carry.

Additionally, top receiver DeAree Rogers managed a 9.5 yard per catch average, accumulating 73 yards on seven total targets.

To add to this, the field goal kicker nailed 4 field goals for a total of 12 points, pushing them past Holy Cross in the opener last week.

Maryland Terrapins

After an impressive week 1 blowout, can the Terrapins continue their success against a weaker foe? Or will they slip up and let an underrated defense take control of this Friday night clash?

If the O-line can hold up and give Malik Washington time, he may have his way with the secondary of the Huskies. Especially with Shaleak Knotts testing the weaker cornerbacks of this opponent.

All in all, it’ll be tough to run the ball against the front of The Huskies, so Malik will be under a ton of pressure and will have to have a receiver party in the secondary.

Important to note, Maryland played terribly last year winning just 2 out of their last 8 games, after appearing to be decent in the first few games of the year.

If history repeats itself, this 18.5 line may be way to large in this matchup.

After just one week, Malik Washington has a completion percentage of 62.8 combined with 3 touchdowns, and no interceptions. Their top receiver Shaleak Knotts averaged 11.8 yards per catch, with 5 receptions for 59 yards and 1 touchdown.

On the ground, RB Dejuan Williams averaged 5.4 yards per carry on 10 carries for 54 total rushing yards, he was also 3 for 3 on receptions for an extra 21 yards.

If this squad can duplicate their performance from last week, this could be an easy win for the Terrapins to start their year off on an 2-0 note.
