This bowl game matchup features the Wolfpack looking for their seventh win against an improving Commodores team.
Neither team is known for their dynamic offense, so this could be a low scoring affair.
North Carolina State Wolfpack
Ryan Finley has done a serviceable job for the Wolfpack under center. In the rivalry game win against North Carolina he was ineffective, finishing the game 11-18 for only 151 yards.
He was sacked once in the game but didn’t turn the ball over. The offensive line will need to play a great game if Finley is going to have success against the Vanderbilt secondary.

Look for him to finish the day with under 200 yards passing and no touchdowns.
Senior running back Matthew Dayes has had a good 4 game stretch while helping the Wolfpack secure a bowl bid. He has averaged 24 carries and 98 yards per contest.
He also found the end zone 6 times during this stretch. If he gets the ball 20+ times in this game he should reach those averages and score a couple of touchdowns.
The NC State passing game has been sporadic this season, but tight end Jaylen Samuels could be a key factor in this game. If he can break through the secondary in the red zone expect him to put up great numbers.
He can also contribute through the air and on the ground as he had a 59 yard TD pass and ran for a touchdown against UNC.

The NC State defense has had good performances ( took Clemson to OT), and a few poor performances. In the rivalry game the secondary wasn’t able to shut down QB Mitch Trubisky as he finished with 280 yards through the air and 3 touchdowns.
If the defensive line can’t get pressure on Vanderbilt’s passing game, expect another long day for the secondary.
Vanderbilt Commodores
Kyle Shurmur put up great numbers in the Vanderbilt upset of Tennessee last week. He threw for over 400 yards with 2 touchdowns and an interception.
It was his 3rd straight game with over 250+ yards passing, and I’m expecting a big game from him against a poor NC State secondary. He should throw for 300 yards and add 3 touchdowns to his season total.
The first 2 games of November did not go well for Ralph Webb, as he didn’t reach 50 yards rushing in either contest (Auburn and Mizzou). He did find is groove against Ole Miss and kept his strong play up against the Vols.
He ran the ball 21 times for 114 yards and 2 touchdowns, after scoring 3 against the Rebels the week before. The Commodores would be smart to get him 15+ touches because he should be able to find the end zone.

The Commodores should expect a good game from Trent Sherfield, who dominated Tennessee for 9 catches and 184 yards. Look for him to get a couple of touchdown catches against NC State.
