The Michigan State Spartans will host the Nebraska Cornhuskers this weekend at Spartan Stadium. Michigan State was able to pull off a big road win over Miami, while Nebraska nearly tackled former conference rival Oklahoma on the road themselves.
HISTORY: Nebraska and Michigan State have collided sporadically since the Huskers have joined the Big Ten. Nebraska leads the all-time series 10-2.
Nebraska Cornhuskers
Nebraska loss their second game of the season last weekend, but they played a CFB Playoff contender admirably on the road. Revisiting the rivalry with Oklahoma brought the best out of the Cornhuskers, as a late rally nearly led to an upset.
Junior Adrian Martinez’s play has reminded fans of former Cornhuskers legend Taylor Martinez. The junior quarterback has been sharp in his fourth year starting behind center. He went 19-25 for 289 passing yards, with a touchdown to an interception, while adding 34 yards on the ground and a score.
Martinez leads the Cornhuskers in rushing with 290 rushing yards and four touchdowns, while Markese Stepp and Gabe Ervin Jr. handle the backfield work. Stepp has 128 yards on 30 carries, while Ervin Jr. has 124 yards on 37 carries, and both backs have scored.
Samori Toure has come in and given Martinez a reliable target early. The Montana transfer had a quiet game against Oklahoma, but he leads the team with 16 catches for 333 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Tight end Austin Allen is second in both catches (13) and yards (135).
Nebraska has shored up their defense since giving up 30 points to Illinois in the opener. They only gave up 21 points to Oklahoma, after dominating Buffalo and Fordham.
Michigan State Spartans
20)Michigan State blessed bettors with their second underdog victory of the season. The Spartans went into Miami and dominated the Hurricanes 38-17, covering their third spread along the way.
Payton Thorne appears to be the real deal behind center. The sophomore quarterback was flawless last weekend on the road, going 18-31 for 261 passing yards with four touchdowns to no interceptions.
Kenneth Walker III has been a big part of the offense early. The Wake transfer rushed for a carry high 264 yards in the opener against Northwestern, and he was ran for 172 yards on 24 carries last weekend.
Jayden Reed and Jalen Nailor give the Spartans a nice duo on the outside. Reed leads the team with 12 catches, 277 receiving yards, and three touchdowns. Nailor caught four passes for 82 yards and two scores in the road win over Miami.
Michigan State did a great job stifling star quarterback D’Eriq King last weekend. They got to the senior quarterback four times and picked off a pair of passes.
Free Week 4 NCAA Football Pick
The Big Ten is wide open beyond Ohio State, and while Michigan and Penn State are looking bound for rebound seasons, Michigan State is as well. The win over Miami was a statement, and that momentum may just continue this week.
4* Free Week 4 NCAA Betting Pick: Michigan State -5
We rode their spread in Miami last weekend, and we’re going to continue that trend this weekend. Nebraska played with pride last weekend on the road, and they may just bring the same energy Saturday, but Michigan State looks like the stronger team through three weeks.
It may just be your typical, physical Big Ten battle, and with the spread feeling very manageable, we will sway in that direction. Take Michigan State’s game spread, and eye the low, reachable over despite it being a conference battle.
