Heisman trophy candidate Dak Prescott starts his 2015 campaign when him and his fellow Bulldogs travel in state to take on the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.
The Bulldogs find themselves in unfamiliar territory as they sat #1 overall last year during the final 5 weeks of the season to where they start their 2015 season unranked.
Still they have one of the best QBs in all of football, but things won’t be easy for him this season. Building some sort of talent around Prescott is what is keeping the Bulldogs from being a legit contender here in 2015.
As for the home team, Southern Miss, they have won just 4 games over the past 3 seasons and were trounced in Starkville last year.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs had a chance to make some serious school history last season. Holding the #1 spot in the nation down the stretch of the season, it looked as if Mississippi State could make a legit run at the title.
However, a trip to Alabama resulted in a backbreaking loss that sent them into a spiral and costed them a spot in the BCS Playoff.
Unranked after their near Playoff appearance in 2014, QB Dak Prescott will have another tough task this season as he doesn’t have many weapons around him.
In 2014 Prescott was the most legit dual threat QB in the nation throwing for 3449 yards and running for nearly 1000 yards. Prescott also had a combined 41 touchdowns threw the air and ground.
The Bulldogs reasoning for keeping them out of the preseason 25 has a lot to do with their running back position. They welcome in a brand new core of RBs.
The Golden Eagles have been one of the worst Division 1 teams in the past 3 seasons. Winning just 3 games combined, the Golden Eagles have looked lost on both sides of the ball.
They still have so many unanswered questions, with one of those being who their QB will be. In a different fashion, Southern Miss will go with 2 Qbs in the opener against Mississippi State.
Nick Mullens and Tyler Matthews will battle it out for the #1 spot, which will be determined in live play.
Mullens is believed to be the main front runner as he had a decent 2014 campaign. The QB threw for 2470 yards with 12 touchdowns. His downfall was the 9 interceptions he threw.
