An SEC matchup is going down in Lexington as the Kentucky Wildcats host the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday Night. The Wildcats are coming off an overtime loss against Ole Miss 42-41, while Mississippi State suffered a loss to Arkansas 21-14.
Mississippi State Bulldogs
This game will be a homecoming for Mike Leach as he was once the offensive coordinator for Kentucky. A lot of people had high hopes for this Mississippi State team after defeating LSU in week one, but after the loss to the Razorbacks, it’s clear that the Bulldogs were frauds all along when it came to a conference title run.
KJ Costello struggled in his second start after defeating the defending National Champions in week one. Costello completed 43 of 59 passes for 313 yards to go along with one touchdown and three interceptions.
Costello took many risky shots downfield in the Arkansas game and needs to cut those attempts back if he wants to prevent turnovers.
The Bulldogs offense does lead the country in air yards per game with 436 yards per game.

Defensively, we will see how Mississippi fairs against a tough rushing attack. The Wildcats are ranked fifth in the country in rushing yards per game and take away the time of possession from the opponent.
The Bulldogs are led by senior Linebacker Errol Thompson. Thompson leads the dogs in combined tackles and solo tackles on the season. He is questionable to go in this game, so that would be a huge blow to an already weak defensive front.
Kentucky Wildcats
Kentucky has yet to pick up a win two weeks into their season. After getting shut down by Auburn, the Wildcats had their hearts ripped out after a missed extra point allowed an Ole Miss to win 42-41 in overtime.
Time of possession is going to be key in this game as Mississippi likes to go down the field fast. It’s a good thing the Wildcats love running the football so much. Kentucky is averaging 276.5 rushing yards through their first two games and has a chance to put up a lot more than that on Saturday night.
The Wildcats will most likely try to replicate Arkansas’s defensive attack from last weekend. We saw the Razorbacks play a lot of zone coverage and it messed up the timing of QB KJ Costello. With dropping an extra defender back it confused the Bulldogs QB and he threw passes that never had a chance to be caught.

Free Week 6 NCAA Football Pick:
I think Kentucky is the pick in this game as they are a great home team. The Wildcats have covered in seven of their last eight games at home and that one loss being to a top 10 Auburn team. Kentucky’s coach Mark Stoops knows how key time of possession is going to be to get the victory, so be on the lookout for a heavy rushing attack of Terry Wilson and Christopher Rodriguez. Give me Kentucky to cover the -2 and get their first win of the year.
