It is Family Weekend / Military Appreciation Day in Charlotte this weekend, as the home team crowd will fill the McColl-Richardson Field seats with hopes of a good showing from the 49ers this Saturday.
Charlotte and Middle Tennessee each come into this weekend’s battle with 3 – 5 records in C-USA play, although the Blue Raiders are up a game in the East Division standings at 2 – 2 to Charlotte’s 1 – 3.
The Blue Raiders will arrive at this party in Charlotte as 3-point road favorites after manhandling FIU last weekend, 50 – 17. Middle Tennessee also has taken all 4 meetings between the programs over the last 4 years, so the 49ers will hope to provide some bite as a barking home dog on Saturday to snap the streak and stay in bowl contention.

Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders
Well, we can obviously state that is a disappointing season thus far in Murfreesboro, and it looks like a 5th straight bowl appearance will take quite a run to finish the regular season for the Blue Raiders.
At 3 – 5, at least this team is coming off a much-needed win last weekend because a loss to FIU would have basically ended all hopes for a post-season bid in 2019.
Coach Stockstill lost the talents of his son at QB after he graduated and Asher O’Hara has tried to fill those shoes as best he can. Overall, I guess we could give him a C, as he has managed to put up 1,652 passing yards with some decent numbers on his stat sheet all around. O’Hara has completed 62.1% of his attempts and his 11 / 5 TD to INT ratio is respectable enough.
The Blue Raiders are ranked 70th in the nation in passing offense putting up 226.8 ypg, although their 180.9 rush yards per contest has the run game listed 48th in the land.
Defense? Well, let’s not torture you with those numbers and do y’all a favor LOL.
This defense is simply bad! You can see this Blue Raider squad listed at 111th or worse in about every defensive category that we keep in college football so that about covers that.

Charlotte 49ers
This ain’t no San Francisco 49er team kids! LOL
Hey, I just mentioned how bad the Middle Tennessee defense is so let’s start there with this 49ers squad. You know there are 130 FBS teams, right? Well, when your defense is sitting at 128th in the nation allowing 39.2 PPG, I think you can see the main issue that needs to be addressed.
Coach Will Healy came into this job knowing he had an uphill battle ahead, but he has taken it on best he can. Make no mistake, this team is not looking past this week because there is so much emphasis on the need for a win on Family Weekend with the Military Appreciation crowd in attendance as well.
That should lift this team’s spirits, but will it lift the game of second-year QB Chris Reynolds? Reynolds has already surpassed all of his freshmen numbers from a year ago, and his 15 / 6 TD to INT ratio looks pretty good on paper too.
Reynolds looked like Joe Montana last weekend, speaking of those old 49er teams, although Joe couldn’t do half of what Reynolds does with his legs. He has already gained 322 yards in the run game and has found paydirt 4 times on the ground as well.
The 49ers are home dogs this weekend? I don’t think so!
