Everything is lining up for the Spartans this season but they still have a couple of tests before their big one against Ohio State.
Meanwhile, little has gone as planned for Nebraska this season.
They are better than most 3-6 teams that’s for sure.
Michigan State
The Spartans are a good team but have not shown as well as they have the last couple of seasons.
They might be a lucky team too but I am not going to hold that against them. The fact is they have put themselves in a great situation and now they have to play it out.
I think the reason that folks are somewhat down on MSU is that the defense has not been nearly as dominant as what we have come to expect.
They also seem to have flipped their philosophy on offense preferring to lean on the passing game.
That is not necessarily a bad strategy when you have an NFL ready senior quarterback like Connor Cook.
His numbers have been good but not great but you have to wonder if he comes up big, in say a win at Ohio State, whether he might enter the Heisman conversation.
As long as they stay focused the Spartans should not have too much trouble beating Nebraska for the third time in a row.
Nebraska
Sometimes you just have one of those seasons. That is what appears to be happening to Nebraska in their first year under Mike Reilly. Five of their six losses have been by five points or less.
If they get even half of those as wins they are respectable.
QB Tommy Armstrong has been productive this season and he has been upgraded from questionable to probable after missing last week. I don’t know if it is scheme or whatever but I want him to be more of a running threat.
He is a big time athlete.
On defense they have been getting shredded through the air this season – ranked 125.
That is a bad number with the Spartans coming to town.
Normally this would be an anticipated matchup but there is little buzz at the moment.
