The Memphis Tigers are hoping to rebound from their 31 – 30 loss to Central Florida a weekend ago. After taking a 16-point lead late into the second quarter against the undefeated Knights, the Tigers were left scoreless in the second half and gave up the last 17 points of the game.
Opening Statement on Home Team
It appeared that the UCF undefeated run of 18 games was about to be snapped, as the Tigers had the Knights on the ropes and wounded last weekend. When the Tigers moved ahead 30 – 14 late in the second quarter, the Knights didn’t panic, and let their defense do the talking.
Memphis were held to 7 of 16 on 3rd down conversion attempts, although no one could slow down RB Darrell Henderson. Henderson accumulated 199 yards rushing, and scored to make it 17 – 7 at the end of the first quarter.
This is nothing new for Mr. Henderson, as he has ran for 200+ on 2 other occasions this season. Henderson has carried the ball 110 times, and already has 1133 rushing yards and 13 TDs.
The man is a stat-stuffer and he doesn’t even have to run over anyone to do it. At 5′ 9″, Henderson would rather run around you, leaving defenders chasing his #8 jersey from behind.
Of course, Memphis fans miss #4 and #3 connecting for multiple catches as they did a season ago.
Henderson has eased the transition from Riley Ferguson at QB to Brady White, as White has a 15 / 1 TD / INT ratio this season. A strong running game will always make a QBs life easier, whether you are full of experience or not.
White’s only interception came back in week 2 against Navy, as he has gone five straight outings without turning the ball over. He won’t move much around the pocket or use his legs to move the chains, but his arm does the talking for him.
The Missouri Tigers have lost their last three outings, despite Mel Kiper having QB Drew Lock as his top-5 NFL draft selections at the position. Lock had a chance to impress the NFL scouts with their big game against Alabama last weekend, but he did nothing to improve his stock.
Make no mistake, Drew Lock certainly does not have the surrounding talent that other teams have. We’re not only talking about the SEC, but way beyond that. The chatter before the season started was about how much talent Missouri was bringing back to the field this year. They got off to the 3 – 0 start, and then they started playing real football teams. UT Martin, Wyoming and Purdue are certainly no wins to write home about, and as soon as SEC play began, the inefficiencies started to glare.
The addition of coordinator Derek Dooley was part of why Lock stayed at Missouri to gain an extra year of experience under a former NFL coach.
Injuries have effected the receiving corps at Mizzou, however, as both Nate Brown and Emanuel Hall are questionable again this weekend. They have both been out of the lineup the last two games.
As much as Memphis enjoys running Henderson out of the back field, Missouri is ranked 24th against the run. That is basically a push in my opinion, because Memphis QB Brady White will be tested this weekend on the road against an SEC defense.
White will have to rely on his instincts and strong arm to move the chains if Memphis has any success at all.

If Drew Lock came back to impress NFL scouts in his final season at Missouri, he better use this game as a stat-packer. Memphis is coming off that disheartening loss to UCF last weekend, and now have to travel to SEC country.
Missouri will get up early, and not let Memphis do what they did to Central Florida last weekend.
Missouri 1st Half -6 will likely be where the line falls, being that they are about -10 on the game line.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: The Missouri Tigers are favored by -9.5 points, and a big-fat 74 is listed as the total. Free ATS or O/U final score pick provided below!
TAKE THE TIGERS TO WIN! Come on, how can I leave that one alone LOL
Missouri should find a way to get past Memphis at home when it is all said and done. Missouri’s team total is 42, and that might be a little extreme. Just grab the first half line and get paid in half hour, instead of sweating it out for 60 minutes. Missouri 24 – 10 going to the locker room is my call on the first half line.
Week 8 Free Score Prediction: Memphis 19 – Missouri 36
