Top ranked Georgia will go one on one with No. 14 ranked LSU in this year’s SEC title game. In year’s past, the SEC championship game is one of high-stakes but this iteration of the game is one with two teams that have different goals in mind.
With their College Football Playoff lost in their loss to Texas A&M last week, LSU will look to play spoiler and end their season on a high note.
Georgia on the other hand are the SEC East champs for the fifth time in six years with a second consecutive 12-0 regular-season record and are a single win from a perfect 13-0 season. A win here will give them the top stop in the playoffs.
LSU Tigers
The main story for the Tigers coming into this game was the status of quarterback Jayden Daniels who went down briefly last week with an ankle injury against the Aggies. Daniels has had a tremendous season for LSU and leads the team in touchdowns both via the pass with 15 and the rush with 11. Now, it was confirmed by head coach Brian Kelly that the dual-threat QB will play in the SEC championship game. As to what percent is ankle is truly at, that’s the question. LSU’s offence obviously depends heavily on the play of Daniels and his mobility.
As a team, the Tigers have rushed for at least 185 yards in each of their last 5 games with Daniels putting up a bulk of those ground yards. Daniels won’t get that much time to take a look down field or even decide if he should take off against Georgia as his offensive line has not done him any favours this year, allowing the second most sacks of any team in the SEC this year at 41.
Georgia Bulldogs
The Bulldogs are an absolute powerhouse of a team this year. They’re averaging nearly 40 points per game while giving up a NCAA best 11.3 against. They rank inside the top 25 in most statistical categories across the nation. That includes ranking inside the top ten for total yards gained and in the top five for total yards allowed. This is also a Georgia team that is the best against the run with less than 80 rushing yards against per game allowed.
On offence, when they’re inside the red zone they are nearly guaranteed to score with a 97% conversion rate which is the best in the nation. They are also top five in third down conversion percentage at 51.4%. In their own end, their defence is first in red zone defence and has allowed the third-fewest third-down conversions on the year.
NCAA Football Handicapping Trends
- Bulldogs are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games after allowing less than 275 total yards in their previous game.
- Bulldogs are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games in December.
- Bulldogs are 23-8 ATS in their last 31 games following a ATS loss.
- Over is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings
4* LSU vs. Georgia NCAA Betting Final Analysis:
While LSU is no slouch, there’s no way around the fact that this iteration of the Georgia Bulldogs are a whole other being of their own. They’re the best on defence and their offence show up day in and day out.
Against ranked opponents they up their game, averaging 7.6 yards per snap which is up from the 6.95 yards they average overall.
We haven’t even talked about their QB yet. Stetson Bennett doesn’t have the gaudiest touchdown numbers with just 16 passes to the end zone this year but what he does have are 3,146 yards and a 67% completion rate. The Dawgs also have three running backs who have over 400 yards, 5.4 yards per carry and six TDs a piece to their names.
Don’t expect this one to be a tight one either as Georgia has played in just a single one-score game all year which was back on October 1st in a win against Missouri.
While the defence will do the smothering and keep LSU side from generating much offence, Georgia will rack up the points and cover the spread.
