Well one thing’s for sure, we’re certain BYU fans won’t be watching this matchup.
The Liberty Flames will travel to Fayetteville and take on the Arkansas Razorbacks from Donald W. Reynolds Stadium this Saturday on the SEC Network. Arkansas is favored to win by 13 here at home, with the total opening at 63.5.
HISTORY: For the third time this season, Arkansas will kick off a new series, as this will mark the first time these two schools cross paths.
Liberty Flames
Liberty is truly thriving as an Independent school and you have to like what Hugh Freeze has built here. The Flames are a single point away from being undefeated, as a one-point loss in Winston-Salem to Wake Forest remains their lone blemish. Since then, they’ve bounced back with five victories, including a road win in Norfolk over in-state for Old Dominion. Prior to their bye, the Flames played in what was dubbed ‘the biggest game in school history’.
In Week 8, Liberty defeated BYU, 41-14, spanking their Christian rivals and earning their biggest win in school history, and improving to 4-4 against the spread this season.
Liberty scores 31.1 points per game, while allowing 21.5 ppg.
An injury to Kaidon Salter has thrusted Johnathan Bennett into the starting lineup. The junior quarterback has been given the task of replacing Malik Willis, and he’s performed very well in from of the home crowd in a big spot versus BYU. That had to be a confidence booster, and despite the steep challenge with Arkansas, he proved a lot in Week 8.
Bennett has passed for 939 yards with eight touchdowns to seven interceptions.
Hugh Freeze has leaned more on the run game this season after the departure of Willis and going down to his second-string QB. Dae Hunter has been one of the most consistent backs in country this season. The Hawaii transfer has surpassed the 110-yard mark in each of the past five games, and he exploded for a career-high 213 yards in the victory over BYU.. Hunter scored three times in the win over ODU, and he leads Liberty with 825 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.
DeMario Douglas has been the guy outside again for Liberty this season. The sophomore wideout is on pace to break last year’s total, and he leads the Flames with 42 receptions, 615 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
Arkansas Razorbacks
Arkansas jumped out to a strong 3-0 start here in 2022, but things have went left quick. The Hogs opened their season with a strong non-conference victory over Cincinnati, then began SEC play with a 14-point victory over South Carolina. After the smooth start, the Razorbacks dropped their first road game of the season to Texas A&M, then lost their star quarterback to injury in the loss to Alabama.
Jefferson missed the Mississippi State game and the Hogs preceded to take their third straight loss, but his presence was felt abruptly in his return for the BYU game. The Razorbacks completed their road trip in style last week, and even caused a pink slip to be handed out.
In Week 9, Arkansas beat Auburn, 41-27, improving to 4-4 against the spread this season.
Arkansas scores 33.8 points per game, while allowing 31.8 ppg.
KJ Jefferson’s return made all of the difference over the past two games. The Hogs avoided a fourth straight loss behind a big effort from the star QB, passing for 367 yards and a season-high five scores in he road victory over BYU, and scoring three more times in win over Auburn last weekend. Jefferson is such a different maker, and he will be playing on Sunday’s in the future.
Jefferson has thrown for 1,697 passing yards with 15 touchdowns to one interception through six games, while rushing for 389 yards and six scores.
Raheim Sanders’ has been amazing for Arkansas this season. Rocking a familiar number 5, and pretty much playing like Darren McFadden himself, the sophomore back has eclipsed the 170-yard mark four times this season. Sanders set a new career-high versus the Cougars, going for 175 yards and two scores in Week 7, and he nearly matched that last weekend with 171 yards on the ground.
Sanders is among the nation’s leaders with 1,041 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.
There’s been a collective effort to replace former Hog Treylon Burks’ presence at the wideout position. Former OU wideout Jadon Haselwood has been steady, catching four or more passes in six of eight games this season, and he’s caught a team-lead 36 receptions and gained 467 receiving yards. Toledo transfer Matt Landers has added 29 catches for 475 yards alongside him.

Free Week 10 NCAA Football Final Analysis:
Well how do ya follow that up if you’re Liberty? Defeating BYU was on the program’s bucket list for years, and their may be a possible hangover from that high.
Liberty has performed admirably this season, but this will indeed be a different beast. The Flames did play Wake Forest very well in Winston-Salem, but late season in Fayetteville will be their stiffest test thus far.
Arkansas has picked things up since KJ Jefferson returned to the lineup, and his presence has elevated the play of those surrounding him. The Razorbacks enter this one on the heels of two strong, double-digit road wins against BYU & Auburn, and there’s no reason they don’t keep things going as they return home. With the energy and momentum on their side, the Hogs can lay the points here. Arkansas by 14
This will almost certainly be beyond -13.5 soon, so go get Arkansas’ spread swiftly for this non-conference clash
