Lafayette had a really good season and they are a heavy favourite here, more so than the second best team in the Sun Belt usually is. An 11 wins season would be very impressive.
Miami was the surprise winner of the MAC this season. It was a down year for the league and they are not getting much respect here.
This is the final bowl game so it is a long layoff for both teams. That probably doesn’t help.
Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns
This was a really great season for Lafayette. They played Mississippi State in the opener and then after that their only losses were to App State, once in the regular season and then in the Sun Belt Championship Game.

The Cajuns put up some great stats along the way too, 11th in scoring and 19th in scoring defense for a spread of close to 20ppg.
They have a really strong running game and that gives them great balance on offense. They have three backs that ran for more than 700 yards and two scored more than 10 TDs.
Levi Lewis is not the biggest QB around but he is very accurate and does not make many mistakes. He had his best game in the title game and it kept them close.
Staying with App State, twice, shows that this team is able to rise to the occasion.
Miami Redhawks
Miami was definitely a surprise in taking the MAC East. It did not look good early in the year when Ohio State abused them but that game was more about how good the Buckeyes are this season. Once league play got going they only lost twice and beat CMU to take the title.
Their statistical profile is terrible though. They were not even in the Top 100 in yards gained this season and the defense was below average overall.
Brett Gabbert is just a freshman but comes from the Gabbert family of quarterbacks. He is not going to wow you but he can get the job done.
Miami is not the more talented team but they have only lost once since week eight. They are going to be feeling confident and if they play mistake free they can keep this one within range.
