The undefeated BYU Cougars are hosting the LA Tech Bulldogs on Friday night in Provo to kick off Week 5 of the College Football season. This will be the first time these two schools will be meeting.
LA Tech Bulldogs
Louisiana Tech took care of business last weekend blowing out Houston Baptist 66-38 at home. The Huskies didn’t stand a chance in the game as after the opening quarter the score was 38-10.
The LA Tech offense is led by senior QB Luke Anthony who came over from Abilene Christian University last season. Anthony has been great so far in the FBS completing 30 of 51 pass attempts for 463 yards to go with eight touchdowns and one interception. Bob Diaco may have found something in the grad-transfer and hopefully can help them capture a CUSA conference championship.
Offensively, Justin Henderson leads the team on the ground with 29 carries for 146 yards plus a TD. Smoke Harris is the team’s leader in receptions with 10 on the season for 89 yards and a TD.
On defense, the Bulldogs are led by freshman Linebacker Tyler Grubbs. Grubbs blows every other defender on this team out of the water with the amount of production he has put up in his first two games. He has combined for 28 tackles (19 solo) on the season and that’s double the next closest player.
BYU dominated Troy their last time out through and through 48-7. The Cougars were moving the ball at will against the Trojans and they couldn’t do anything to prevent it.
Kalani Sitake’s squad on offense is led by Junior Zach Wilson. Wilson has completed 36 of 45 passes for 624 yards to go with four touchdowns and an interception. He is one of the most accurate passers in the country. Among qualified quarterbacks with a minimum of 45 pass attempts so far in this season, Wilson has the highest completion percentage among them at 80%.
The Cougars like to rely on the ground game though as they have the ninth-best rushing attack in the country. BYU averages 246.5 yards on the ground per game and a lot of that is thanks to lead backs Tyler Allgeier and Lopini Katoa. Allgeier and Katoa have combined for 448 yards from scrimmage along with five touchdowns.

Free Week 5 NCAA Football Pick:
I think LA Tech will be able to keep up with the scoring of BYU. Luke Anthony has proven that he is able to make the right decisions under center with his 8:1 TD to INT ratio. BYU has yet to have a team challenge them this season and I think they come into this game relaxed. The Cougars are 5-2 straight up as the favorite but only covered in two of those seven contests. Give me the Bulldogs to keep it close and cover the +24.
