The Kansas Jayhawks will travel south and take on the Houston Cougars from TDECU Stadium this Saturday afternoon on ESPNU. The Cougars will open as 9-point favorites here at home, with the total opening at 62.5.
These two schools have provided more memories on the court then the gridiron, but Kansas does hold a 3-0 series lead over Houston on the field.
Kansas Jayhawks
There may also be another Big 12 program back and on the rise, and it’s falling a bit too hard under the radar. Lance Leipold has come in, changed the culture, and it’s shown early.
Kansas (+375) defeated West Virginia in Morgantown, 55-42, coming through on the huge underdog money line.
Jalon Daniels has given KU fans something to cheer about in Fall. The dual-threat quarterback has brought an element of excitement to the offense, and his performance against WVU should have the Big 12 on notice. On the road last weekend, Daniels threw for 219 passing yards with three touchdowns to no interceptions, while adding 85 yards on the ground.
Devin Neal and Daniel Hishaw Jr. have done a good job splitting the touches early. Neal led the team in rushing last season, and he’s scored five touchdowns through the first two contests. Hishaw Jr. has rushed for 119 yards and he scored twice in the upset win over West Virginia.
Daniels has spread the ball around pretty well early. Luke Grimm caught a team-high six passes last week, while redshirt freshman Quentin Skinner and Lawrence Arnold caught three passes apiece.
Houston Cougars
Houston survived a scare from UTSA in the opener, but they couldn’t escape defeat on the road last weekend. The Cougars couldn’t hold of a late rally from their in-state rivals and their CFB Playoff hopes fell down the drain.
Last week, Houston lost to Texas Tech in Lubbock, 33-30, covering their 4-point underdog spread.
Clayton Tune brings a ton of experience to the position. For the past three seasons, Tune has led on of the AAC’s best offenses, and he’s off to another strong start here in 2022. The fifth-year senior had a terrific performance against UTSA (206 pass yards, 4 total touchdowns (3 pass, 1 rush), but he struggled against Texas Tech, completing just 51.3% of his passes. A bounce back performance at home feels likely.
Brandon Campbell has come over from USC and given the Cougars a reliable, three-down presence early. The hometown product totaled 134 yards (80 rush, 54 rec), including a 18-yard touchdown run in the lost to Texas Tech.
Nathaniel Dell has picked up where he left off as one of the best receivers in the country. Dell racked up 1,179 receiving yards in 2021, and he surpassed the 2,000-yard career mark with his impressive seven-catch, 120-yard performance against the Red Raiders. The senior wideout scored twice in the win over UTSA as well, and will be a name to keep your eye on this season.

Free Week 3 NCAA Football Final Analysis:
This is not the same Kansas Jayhawks team we’ve been accustomed to. The Lance Leipold regime is fully underway, and KU has a chance to make some noise in the Big 12 this season. Houston’s coming off of a tough loss, and despite thriving offensively, they haven’t been able to stop anyone. Now this will mark the home opener for the Cougs, so expect a sharper unit to come out Saturday, but the spread has dropped two points for a reason. Kansas has showed the ability to move the ball and score early this season, so we love spotting them the points here.
Kansas is 2-0 ATS this season, bet on them to make it three straight covers and take the Jayhawks spread Saturday afternoon.
