These teams will play each other for the first time since 1988.
Indiana Hoosiers
The Hoosiers had a very successful season considering where their program has been for many many years. They will be looking for their 9th win of the season, something they have not managed to do since 1967. They have not even had a winning season since 2007, so to get to 8 wins was a huge step in the right direction by itself. The program has also not won a bowl game since 1991, so a win here would be huge.
The success Indiana has had this year starts with their ability to throw the football. They have the 13th best passing offense in the country. They are led by quarterback, Peyton Ramsey, who has 2,227 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. The reason his stats are not popping off the page is because Ramsey is originally the back-up and has been filling in for their starter.

The defense for the Hoosiers is average at best this season. They rank in the top 50 in most defensive categories, including total yards allowed, passing yards allowed, rushing yards allowed and points allowed. They are better at stopping the run however, allowing just 139 yards per game.
Indiana needs to give their offense plenty of chances, so forcing turnovers is going to be a must if they want to win this game.
Tennessee Volunteers
The Volunteers started the season about as poor as they could, but somehow managed to become bowl eligible. They have actually won five games in a row, so at the moment, they are playing great football.
Their offense however is lacking this season to say the least. They average 365 yards per game, which ranks 100th in the country. Their passing offense is not much better, averaging 220 yards per game and ranking 77th.
They also do not score enough, averaging only 24.2 points per game. During their five-game winning streak, they have scored an average of 28 points per game, However, that still may not be enough in this game against a pass happy Hosiers team.
At the very least, their defense is pretty solid at containing the pass. They allow 191.2 yards per game, which ranks 17th. Other than defending the passing, we have a mediocre run defense that allows 145.8 yards per game.
Overall, they allow 21.7 points per game. However, during their five-game win streak, they have allowed 14.2 points per game.
Really the key for the Volunteers is going to be slowing down a lethal passing attack. To do this, getting pressure on Ramsey is a must.
NCAA Football Handicapping Trends
- Indiana are 6-2 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
- Indiana are 6-3 ATS in their last 9 games.
TaxSlayer Gator Bowl NCAA Football Pick
I believe that the wrong team is favored and I like the Hoosiers to get the win in this bowl game.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Indiana Hoosiers +1.5
The spread is not much in this game, showing that these teams are very evenly matched. However, I like the passing attack from the Hoosiers more than anything that Tennessee offers, so I will take the Hoosiers to cover.
