An AAC matchup between the Memphis Tigers and Houston Cougars is going down in Memphis this weekend. The Cougars haven’t played a game in a little under a month due to COVID, but put a pounding on UCF their last time out 56-21. The Tigers are coming off a loss to Tulane 35-21 down in New Orleans. Memphis has covered the spread the last four times these teams met.
Year one under new head coach Dana Holgorsen was strange for the Houston Cougars program who had a very mediocre 4-8 record last season, snapping the program’s streak of six consecutive bowl games. Now COVID-19 has massively influenced the Houston Cougars 2020 football season. The Cougars played six games between October 3 through November 14 after having their first four games of the season cancelled.
The offense is led by junior quarterback Clayton Tune. He has completed 60.6 % of his passes in six starts, throwing for 1,562 yards, eleven touchdowns and 6 INTs.
Running back Kyle Porter leads the team in scrimmage yards with 415 yards this season for the Cougs and also leads the team in touchdowns with five this year. Keith Corbin has emerged as Tune’s top target in the offense this season as he has hauled in 24 receptions for 333 yards to lead the team in receiving yards.
The Cougars are averaging 33.2 points and 425.8. yards per game. The Cougars passing attack is 34th in the nation averaging 267.8 yards per game and 158 rushing yards, ranking 71st.
The Tigers saw their three-game winning streak end last Saturday when they lost to Tulane 35-21. Memphis has lost all hopes of an AAC championship game appearance with that loss as Cincy and Tulsa are the top dogs this season. A bunch of Memphis players have opted out since the loss so they will short handed playing in this game.
The Memphis Tigers are averaging 31.8 points which is 39th in the FBS and 467.2 yards per game. Senior quarterback Brady White has been strong for Memphis this season, throwing for 26 TDs and eight interceptions, 2,850 yards, and completing 59.8% of his passes. The Tigers passing attack is contributing 317.4 passing yards per game which is good for 15th in the nation.
On the defensive side of the ball, it’s not so pretty for Memphis. They are surrendering 30 points per game to opponents which is 73rd in the country. They give up an average of 306.7 passing yards per game and 146.4 rushing yards per game to foes.

Free Week 15 NCAA Football Prediction:
I like Houston to get the win in this game. Even though they have had some battles with COVID within the program I think they are the better-coached team. Memphis lost a lot of key players on the offensive side of the ball due to opt-outs over the last week and I don’t think they will be able to overcome those losses. I think it’s going to be a shootout in Memphis on Saturday, but give me Houston and the points to edge out the Tigers.
