The Oregon Ducks are set to open a new chapter with the 2015 college football season, as they look to avenge themselves from a National Championship loss against the Ohio State Buckeyes by starting a new quarterback in place of Heisman Trophy winner and the best player in program history, Marcus Mariota.
Ironically enough, the Ducks will be putting its newest quarterback, Vernon Adams, up against his old team in Week 1 of the season.

While at Eastern Washington, Adams earned the reputation as a big playmaker. It’s true that he didn’t see big-time competition on a regular basis, but during his time with the Eagles he found success against Pac-12 programs.
Both sides have motivation in this one.
Adams and the Ducks want to show that they both made the right decision (to transfer and to start a quarterback unfamiliar with the system, respectively), and Eastern Washington wants to put a beatdown on a player who is now looking for national success after transferring out of its program.
Eastern Washington
The Eastern Washington Eagles may be an FCS program, but they’ve caused headaches to bigger programs in recent years. North Dakota State has won the last four FCS championships, but EW won the title back in 2010 — the only program other than North Dakota State to win a championship in the last five seasons.

Replacing Adams at quarterback will be no easy task, but the Eagles have a solid player in Jordan West who will attempt to do just that. West went 3-1 as a starter last season, and he completed 60.6 percent of his tosses for 1,072 yards (9 TD, 1 INT).
West will also have a big-time weapon at wide receiver in Cooper Kupp. Kupp has recorded 34 touchdowns in two seasons at Eastern Washington, and he remarkably scores every 4.4 times he touches the ball.
Oregon
The National Championship runner-ups have plenty to prove this season, and it all starts in Week 1. Although a win isn’t going to impress anyone on the national scale, a loss would certainly take this new-look squad out of title contention before the discussion truly comes to surface.

Although most people see this contest as a warmup for Week 2’s road contest against Michigan State, the Ducks shouldn’t (and won’t) be looking past this one.
The team needs to establish consistent offense early, as you’re looking at a program that is trying to replace Marcus Mariota, trying to re-integrate top injured receivers from last season and trying to establish a new Heisman hopeful in Royce Freeman with No. 2 tailback Thomas Tyner out for the year with an ACL.

Week 1 NCAA Football Prediction
This game should have a back-and-forth feel to it — but one that always seems to be in the Ducks’ favor.

Don’t be surprised if Oregon experiences some Week 1 hiccups against a strong FCS opponent, but don’t be surprised, either, when the home team walks away with a fairly convincing win.
