We finally get this game. These two programs were supposed to meet a few weeks ago but Liberty got hit by COVID-19.
Their absence created the Coastal Carolina vs. BYU game so it was not all bad.
Coastal has the pressure of trying to complete a perfect season. That in itself makes this one very interesting.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers
All you can do is play your schedule, right? That is what Coastal has done. It is too bad that they did not include a Sun Belt Championship game win among their highlights for the year but they had already beaten Louisiana once during the season.
No team got as close as that Louisiana squad with the Chanticleers beating the Cajuns by three points. At times they have been one of the most dominant teams in the country.
CCU is one of the most balanced teams in the nation too. On offense they rush for 223 ypg and they throw for 223ypg. They are 18th in the nation in scoring offense and 15th in the nation in scoring D.
There is definitely more pressure on the Chanticleers for this one than Liberty.
Liberty Flames
For a while there the Liberty story was very similar to the Coastal one, though they are playing as an independent this season. They have just one loss on the year.
The only team that beat Liberty this season was NC State, by a point. Along the way they did beat a couple of ACC teams in Syracuse and Virginia Tech.
The Flames profile very similarly to CCU. Their offense is also super balanced, 252ypg on the gound and 231ypg though the air. They are 17th in scoring offense and 17th in scoring defense.
All season long coach Hugh Freeze has been a hot name for coaching vacancies in other markets. He has done such a good job in this one.
Ditto for CCU’s coach. Hopefully no news between now and the game takes away from how good this one could be.
