Clemson Tigers vs. North Carolina Tar Heels Gameday
This is a very weird game to look at. The Tigers have been terrible this season after starting the year in the Top Ten.
North Carolina looked awful in their opener, but has managed to win a couple of games since. Even though they have not impressed.
The betting markets are saying there is still a large gap betweeen these two programs, which I do believe.
You have to hold your nose if you are backing the Tigers though.

The Tigers have had a week to reflect on their poor start to the season. There is honestly no reason they can’t run the table and be in the hunt in the ACC, a weak league.
However, they have not scored more than 21 points in a game this season so it is hard to have confidence in their offense. Cade Klubnik was supposed to be a Heisman contender, and his receivers NFL worthy. Now it is hard to see.
By comparison, the defense has not been a disaster. It has not dominated nearly enough to carry the team though.

There is no other way to classify Clemson other than to say it has been a struggle.
The team’s offense has struggled to find consistency, ranking near the bottom nationally in scoring offense and total offense.
Modest production from the rushing attack, led by running back Adam Randall, have contributed to the team’s difficulties, exemplified by a low time of possession.
Despite the offensive challenges, the Clemson defense has kept the team in games, maintaining a respectable position nationally in points allowed per game.
The Tigers have shown some ability to generate pressure and be stout against the run, helping to balance the team’s struggles. However, defensive performances, while solid, have not been enough to overcome the early losses, which included a narrow defeat to No. 9 LSU and conference losses to Georgia Tech and Syracuse.
With several ACC matchups remaining, the team will need to see improvements in offensive efficiency and turnover margin to turn the season around and contend for a strong finish.
North Carolina Tar Heels
The record look “normal” but the simple fact is that this North Carolina team is not very good. Theur wins are against Charlotte and Richond.
Against P4 opponents the Tar Heels have not scored more than 14 points in a game. Continuity over the season should add some potentcy to the offense, but that only goes so far.
If Bill Belichi was supposed to have real impact on the defense, we have yet to see it. Against those same P4 opponents they have given up 48 and 34 points. The averages are helped by those weaklings they beat.
It is very difficult to see how this team is going to compete, even in an ACC with just one dominant team this season.
North Carolina Tar Heels Stats
UNC might be 2-2 but that record probably doesn’t tell the right story.
Offensively, the team has struggled to put points on the board, averaging points per game, which ranks them very low nationally.
The passing offense, led by quarterbacks Gio Lopez and Max Johnson, has accounted for yards and five touchdowns, completing of their passes, but has also thrown four interceptions.
The ground game is averaging only yards per rush on attempts, totaling yards and four rushing touchdowns, with running back Demon June leading the team in rushing yards.
On the defensive side, North Carolina is allowing an average of points per game.
In terms of turnover margin, the defense has generated four interceptions, matching the four interceptions thrown by the offense.
