One-loss Clemson looks to strengthen their claim to a spot in the CFP bracket. Miami could secure a signature win in a letdown season.
Clemson has already punched their ticket to the ACC title game in Charlotte in the first weekend of December. The conference is a two team race, with Carolina also securing their spot. Clemson has to have the conference to have a real claim at the CFP, but until that point they can’t suffer a letdown. There will be plenty of one-loss teams with claims as well.
Miami and Tyler Van Dyke entered the season with high hopes, especially Mario Cristobal who came over to lead the Canes. It hasn’t played out the way many expected, but a win against Clemson would give near unlimited optimism headed into next season and may even give Miami a recruiting bump.
Both teams have plenty at stake in a seemingly ho-hum game.
Clemson Tigers
Clemson promptly rebounded from their loss to Notre Dame with a 31-16 win over Louisville to clinch the Atlantic division. DJ Uiagalelei wasn’t asked to do too much as the offense produced 248 rushing yards and 3 TD on 45 carries.
They’ve struggled all season to be successful passing the ball (69th) and have even tried swapping QB’s to no avail. Clemson doesn’t find themselves in passing downs often though (83rd), and that’s a large reason why they’re 9-1 without much of a passing offense. Will Shipley is the lead back, though Phil Mafah saw 10 carries against the Cardinals.
Ask the average fan and even they could tell you Clemson lives mostly off of their defense. They’re top-30 in defensive success rate and top-15 in stuff rate and havoc generated. Though, the Tigers have been more successful defending the pass.
Miami Hurricanes
Freshman Jacurri Brown handled starting QB duties with Tyler Van Dyke out last week with a shoulder injury. We haven’t gotten an update from the U in 5 days, but Cristobal is optimistic he plays before the end of the year. But that doesn’t tell us if he plays this week.
The Hurricanes routed Georgia Tech last week on the back of 4 interceptions, including a 99-yard pick six. To the credit of Brown, he did throw for 3 touchdowns, showing us that he’s capable.
We’ll obviously want to know if Van Dyke plays, but on the season as a whole, the Hurricanes have been a passing offense. They’re just above average in success rate (49th) and don’t show any explosiveness (106th).
Miami is however, a very efficient rushing offense. They’ve posted a top-10 offensive rushing success rate, though they will face a tough Clemson front. Brown is a dual-threat QB, something we need to consider.
The defense of Miami will be expected to show up against Clemson’s run-heavy approach. The Canes have a top-30 mark in defensive rushing success rate and are top-20 in havoc generated, stuff rate and line yards allowed.

4* Free Clemson Tigers vs. Miami Hurricanes NCAA Betting Final Analysis:
Miami has an interesting wrinkle in the fact that their backup is not only capable of leading an offense but that he’s also a solid runner.
We know who Clemson is at this point and that’s a rushing offense that gets little help from their passing game. Both teams are stout up front based on their stuff rates and line yards, so it could be a bit of a slog.
Clemson will be able to take care of business here but the spread is in question. Cristobal has always been able to generate points in his stops this season, and with Clemson’s lack-of-explosiveness offense, I think Miami can cover the 19.
