The California Golden Bears will travel south to Los Angeles and take on the USC Trojans from the LA Coliseum this Saturday night on ESPN. USC will open as the 12-point favorites at home, with the total opening at 60.
HISTORY: USC holds a lopsided all-time series lead here over Washington State of 61-10-4.
Cal Golden Bears
Cal got off to 2-0 start, and they nearly upset Notre Dame in South Bend in Week 3. The Golden Bears bounced back and defeated Arizona in their Pac-12 opener, but conference play hasn’t been kind to them since. After losing to Washington State, Cal came out of their bye, and handed Colorado their first win of season. A return to Berkeley didn’t help as a they’d lose their third game by seven points to Washington in Week 9, and they were simply outmatched last time out.
In Week 9, Cal lost to Oregon, 42-24, dropping to 4-5 against the spread this season.
California is scoring 23.4 points per game, while allowing 25.2 ppg.
Jack Plummer will make his ninth start for the Golden Bears this weekend. The Purdue transfer performed well in the Washington game, but he regressed a bit against Oregon last weekend with his first multi-pick game of the season. How Plummer fares in the Coliseum versus a rowdy USC front-seven remains to be seen.
Plummer has thrown for 1,968 passing yards with 13 touchdowns to five interceptions.
Jaydn Ott has received the bulk of the load here in his first season, but he hasn’t had much room to operate 274-yard outburst versus Arizona. Ott has received 16 touches or more in each game this season, and he’s totaled 675 rushing yards, 24 catches, and seven touchdowns through his first nine games.
Plummer’s two favorite targets are Jeremiah Hunter and J.Michael Sturdivant. Hunter has caught 35 passes for a team-leading 544 receiving yards . Sturvidant leads the team with 43 receptions, and he’s recorded 516 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
USC Trojans
Southern Cal darted out to a 6-0 start, with three of those by three possessions or more, and then they went to Salt Lake City. USC and Utah played in what will be view as a game of the year candidate, with the hometown Utes making a cold-blooded call and going for two to pick up the victory. The one-point loss is the Trojans’ lone blemish, and they got back in the win column last weekend in Tucson.
In Week 9, USC defeated Arizona, 45-37, dropping to 4-4 against the spread this season.
USC scores 41.1 points per game, while allowing 24.1 ppg.
Caleb Williams came over with Coach Riley, and he has not disappointed. The former OU QB was rattled last weekend against the Beavers, has put together back-to-back five touchdown performances, and he should light Cal up here. Williams is the best to grace the position at USC in a while.
Williams has thrown for 2,382 passing yards with 24 touchdowns to one interception through eight starts.
Travis Dye is the second of multiple key new pieces brought on by Lincoln Riley. The Oregon transfer posted his fifth 100-yard performance of the season last weekend against the Wildcats, and he’s scored in each of the past seven games. Dye is among Pac-12 leaders with 760 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.
Jordan Addison was the third vital piece, and he’s starred after breaking all kinds of receiving records at Pitt. Addison leads the Trojans in receptions (39), receiving yards (585), and touchdowns (7). Mario Williams also came over from OU with Riley, and he’s second on the team with 26 catches, 493 yard, and four scores. Both wideouts missed the Arizona game, and their statuses will definitely be worth monitoring heading to this weekend.
Veteran wideout Tahj Washington played big against Arizona, catching seven passes for 118 yards and his first two scores of the season. Colorado transfer Brenden Rice also stepped up last weekend, catching five passes for 62 yards and a score. The Trojans have much so depth in the wideout room.

Free Week 10 NCAA Football Final Analysis:
USC will get to breath for a couple of weeks before heading to the Rose Bowl to face UCLA for a spot in the PAC-12 title game, but look for them to stay sharp here. A dominant win at home here will only please the voters, as a one-point point loss to Utah may end up being their lone blemish this season.
Southern Cal is the far superior team, and they should flex their muscles here and potentially creep up the polls a bit. The Trojans will put the Bears’ bowl eligibility in grave danger and send them back to Berkeley searching for answers Saturday night. USC by 21
