No. 10 BYU heads to Fort Worth for a Week 5 Big 12 matchup with TCU at Amon G. Carter Stadium. Kalani Sitake’s Cougars are 3-0 and 1-0 in conference play, while Sonny Dykes’ Horned Frogs enter at 2-2 and 0-1.
Kickoff is set for 6 PM CT and 7 PM ET on ESPN.
BYU comes out of its bye looking to protect an unbeaten start. TCU returns home for its Big 12 opener after a road loss at UCF.
BYU had a week to rest; TCU had a week to stare at 33 rushing yards. Everybody stayed busy.
Saturday also marks TCU’s first home game against a top-10 opponent since 2023. The Frogs are trying to avoid an 0-2 Big 12 start for the first time since 2013.

The opening odds make BYU the road favorite. The Cougars are -240 on the moneyline, TCU is +198, and BYU is laying 6.5 points.

BYU’s most recent game was a 41-23 victory at Colorado State. The Cougars built a 31-7 halftime advantage before heading into their bye week.
TCU lost 21-13 at UCF last week. The Horned Frogs entered the fourth quarter down one before the Knights scored the final seven points.
BYU dominated last season’s meeting 44-13 in Provo.

Horned Frogs Stats
TCU’s defense did enough to win at UCF.
The Horned Frogs held the Knights to 266 total yards and 160 through the air. Through four games, TCU is allowing only 12.5 points per game, the second-best mark in the Big 12.
The offense couldn’t provide the same help.
TCU managed only 33 rushing yards and fewer than 2 yards per carry. Jeremy Payne scored the Frogs’ lone TD, but there was never enough ground production to make UCF respect both dimensions of the offense.
Jaden Craig still moved the football through the air.
The Harvard transfer threw for 310 yards as TCU finished with 343 total. Jordan Dwyer gave him a reliable target in his return to the lineup.
TCU now has three 300-yard passing performances from Craig in four games.
Turning that yardage into points is the next order of business. Moving between the 20’s is lovely, but unfortunately the scoreboard remains stubbornly unimpressed.
Cougars Stats
BYU went into its bye after overwhelming Colorado State with 559 total yards.
The Cougars did most of the early damage on the ground. LJ Martin rushed for 176 yards and 3 TD’s on 15 carries, scoring all three times in the opening quarter.
Legend Glasker supplied the big-play threat outside.
The freshman caught three passes for 135 yards, including a 70-yarder. He also scored on a jet sweep as BYU repeatedly stressed Colorado State horizontally and vertically.
Martin between the tackles and Glasker in space gives defensive coordinators two completely different reasons to lose sleep.
BYU averaged 9.6 yards per play in Fort Collins.
The Cougars also held Colorado State to 82 rushing yards, allowing them to dictate the game before the Rams generated some production after halftime.
Cougars vs. Horned Frogs QB Matchup
Jaden Craig has quickly become the focal point of TCU’s offense.
The Harvard transfer has thrown for 1,213 yards and owns three 300-yard games through four starts. TCU has also produced 19 completions of at least 20 yards, giving Craig plenty of opportunities to challenge coverage downfield.
Bear Bachmeier operates a more balanced setup.
The BYU sophomore has thrown for 642 yards with 6 TD’s and one interception. He doesn’t carry the same passing volume as Craig, but he’s been efficient while playing alongside a running game that demands attention.

Craig’s challenge is turning production into finished possessions.
BYU doesn’t have to eliminate TCU’s passing game completely. Making the Frogs string together long drives without explosives would force Craig to stay patient and keep executing near the goal line.
Bachmeier gets to play a different game.
He can let BYU’s rushing attack dictate defensive looks and attack the opportunities that follow. If TCU starts squeezing toward the line of scrimmage, Bachmeier has enough arm talent to make that adjustment expensive.
BYU Cougars vs. TCU Horned Frogs bottom line: TCU can threaten vertically, while BYU’s offensive balance gives the Cougars several ways to punish whichever part of the field the Frogs leave vulnerable.

Here is my Cougars Horned Frogs free pick: I’m taking Over 47.5. This number gives us plenty of room because neither offense needs to spend four quarters operating at full throttle. A couple of explosives and reasonably competent red-zone work can do most of the heavy lifting.
TCU is the key for me. Craig has shown he can stretch a defense vertically, and the Frogs left a pile of yards on the field last week without turning enough of them into points. I’m betting on some correction there rather than another afternoon where the offense travels 80 yards to collect three.
Forty-seven and a hook isn’t demanding a shootout; it’s basically asking both offenses to remember why the end zones are painted.
BYU should contribute its share without needing Bachmeier to throw it all night. The Cougars can force TCU to respect the backfield, then attack the space that creates. That makes them dangerous on drives where one missed tackle can change the scoreboard quickly.
I also want a close game at this number. If neither side creates separation, fourth-quarter aggression stays alive instead of disappearing into clock-killing mode. Give me two capable QB’s, enough explosive-play potential and a manageable total. Give me BYU-TCU Over 47.5.
